Chennedy Carter's own coach criticizes her foul on Caitlin Clark and says it's 'not appropriate' after holding talks with Chicago Sky star

Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon has publicly criticized guard Chennedy Carter for her hard foul on Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark on Saturday.

Seemingly out of anger for an earlier elbow to the face, Carter hip-checked Clark to the ground in a dead-ball situation that has become the talk of the sports world on Monday.

In a statement, Weatherspoon deemed her guard's actions as inappropriate for the moment.

'Chennedy got caught up in the heat of the moment in an effort to win the game. She and I have discussed what happened and that it was not appropriate, nor is it what we do or who we are,' Weatherspoon said in the statement.

The foul was originally called as an away-from-ball foul - with Clark sinking a free throw and the Fever kept possession.

Since then, the WNBA has upgraded that situation to a Flagrant-1 foul.

Carter has not been fined by the WNBA and is not expected to receive any further punishment for the incident.

Since the incident, information about Carter's past has been re-hashed - including her previous stops with the Atlanta Dream and the Los Angeles Sparks.

In Atlanta, she was suspended and then never played for the team again after threatening to fight a teammate.

Similar behavior led to her getting benched in Los Angeles - with Carter sitting for four games due to a 'coaches decision'.

The Fever next play in the WNBA's Commissioner's Cup against the 0-8 Washington Mystics.
