PGA Tour players, golf legends and commissioner Jay Monahan came together on Tuesday to remember the late Grayson Murray.

Murray, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, tragically took his own life last month - shortly after pulling out of the Charles Schwab Challenge in Texas.

The Tour moved to Dublin, Ohio for the Memorial Tournament and on Tuesday, nearly the entire field gathered near the first tee at Muirfield Village. They were joined by Memorial founder Jack Nicklaus, his wife Barbara, caddies and officials.

More than a hundred fans also watched from nearby as a bagpipe played 'Amazing Grace'. Next to the podium stood Murray's golf bag and a large framed photograph of his victory at the Sony Open in January.

Scottie Scheffler was among those to speak at the event. The world No 1 confessed to wondering what more he could have done to help Murray, who was open about his struggles with depression, anxiety and drink.

'We’re not designed to live this life on our own,' Scheffler said. 'We all carry a lot more baggage than we let on—myself especially.

'I think we all wish we could have done more for him, wish we could have done things differently. You know, your mind just kind of goes to what you could have done to prevent this from happening.

'It was really fun getting to know him the last few months. Marriage was around the corner for him.'

Scheffler added: He had his fiancee (Christiana Ritchie), and he was trying to get his fiancee involved in life out here.

'He was trying to really be the best version of himself, and to be a great husband. He was looking forward to one day becoming a dad, and it pains me that he’s no longer with us.'

Monahan also paid tribute to Murray, his voice cracking at times. 'All of us at the PGA Tour carry a heavy heart and will for a long time to come,' he said.

'When you lose a family member, you can never quite put all the pieces back together."

Recalling one message he received after stepping away for more than a month with anxiety-induced physical and mental issues, Monahan added: 'A line in that text will always stay with me: '"Jay I just want you to get healthy. I know everything is going to work out for our tour and for the better"'

'He offered not condemnation but compassion. Instead of walking away from me, he offered to walk with me. I'll always be thankful for this act of kindness, and I'm not alone.'
