A woman who used to own a Costco membership revealed a 'life hack' that will help consumers purchase the retail chain's products without a membership.
Tiff Bish (@tiffjessup) explained the hack in a TikTok video she posted on June 4.
The TikTok user explained that she used to have a Costco membership but canceled it because she believed that memberships for more than one store chain were 'dumb and a waste of money.'
Tiff currently shops at Sam's Club - a popular membership-only warehouse chain where she claims her hack can also be applied.
'If you want to try Costco or Sam's Club stuff and you don't have a membership, go on Instacart,' she said in her video
A woman who calls herself Tiff Bishop on TikTok revealed a hack for consumers to purchase items at the warehouse store chain in a video she posted on June 4
Costco launched its first membership-only warehouse store in 1983 in Seattle.
The store currently offers Executive Member and Gold Star Member tier options to customers.
The warehouse store chain continues to attract a staggering number of shoppers and had 129.5 million members as of November 2023, according to Fox Business.
Tiff was one of those Costco shoppers before canceling her membership.
She has since urged viewers to use Instacart, a grocery delivery and pick-up service in the US and Canada.
Tiff concluded her video by praising the Island Way sorbet she ate during the TikTok.
'I am addicted to these things, especially the coconut one. It's so creamy and so good,' she said.
Tiff posted another clip on TikTok yesterday in response to a comment made on her initial video on the social media platform, which has racked up nearly 500,000 views.
The TikToker proved the hack works for Costco by buying a box of Island Way Sorbet from one of its stores on the Instacart app.
The 'life hack' Tiff suggested for shoppers that don't have Costco or Sam's Club memberships is to pay for their products using Instacart
Instacart is a grocery delivery and pick-up service in the US and Canada. Instacart members can make their orders online or on the app
Tiff posted the TikTok after she saw a comment on her June 4 video that said, 'They ask for your membership ID before checking out.'
She accessed her Instacart account and showed her video viewers step-by-step directions on how to use Instacart for Costco.
'I just wanted to show that you can use Instacart Costco without a membership,' she said.
Tiff also noted that she didn't need memberships for both retail stores while adding a box of Island Way sorbets to her Costco cart.
'You just click through, click continue, then click no thanks about the membership, and then you're good,' she said.
'I know Instacart isn't cheap, but it works for sometimes with my busy life.'
TikTok users who commented on her videos brought up the Instacart price and one person who claimed to be a Costco employee wrote that Tiff was '100 percent right.'
Tiff posted another TikTok video yesterday in response to comments made by shoppers who claimed that they were required to use a Costco membership number
'They charge way more for the items on Instacart then they are in an actual Costco,' a TikToker wrote.
Tiff responded, 'That is the case with Instacart normally. They have to make a profit and pay the delivery person, but delivery works for my busy lifestyle, so I’m okay with it just to try a few things.'
One commenter who claimed to work at Instacart revealed that she pays for things with its app 'all the time' but never knew this hack existed.
Others claimed the hack did not work at the Costco locations they shop at and that they were forced to give a membership number.
'They found me out and required a membership number. I’m in Texas, a TikToker wrote.
