From Krispy Kreme to Dunkin' Donuts - the six places to get freebies and deals for national doughnut day

National Doughnut Day is upon us and half a dozen chains are offering free doughnuts in celebration. 

The national day of homage for the sweet treat is celebrated on the first Friday in June each year. 

The commemoration began 86 years ago, founded by the Salvation Army in honor of their 'Donut Lassies. 

The Lassies were women volunteers who travelled to France to care for wounded soldiers in the First World War. 

Their nickname came from their habit of making doughnuts to boost soldiers morale. 

Duck Donuts 

On Friday Duck Donuts are handing out free cinnamon sugar donuts in stores with no other purchase required. 

Dunkin' Donuts

If you stop by Dunkin' tomorrow and pick up a coffee (or any other drink) when a free classic doughnut is also yours for the taking.

Krispy Kreme 

Krispy Kreme is also offering on free dougnut per customers in stores tomorrow. However, specialty and limited-time doughnuts will not be included. 

LaMar’s Donuts & Coffee

LaMar's is giving away a free Ray's Original Glazed doughnut in stores on Friday to mark the occasion.

Shipley Donuts 

Shipley Donut fans can pick up a free doughnut in stores tomorrow with any other purchase. 

Voodoo Doughnuts 

Whilst not handing out any freebies this year Voodoo Doughnuts is offering a mouthwatering deal. On Friday customers can order a dozen Raised Glazed doughnuts for just $10.
