His character was killed off the show in 1978 in the Pearl Harbor attack - however in 1981 Curt reappeared in Florida, this time played by Scott Hylands.

In a 2022 interview, Bower revealed what had caused his exit, saying: 'I asked for a very small raise, so they sent me to Pearl Harbor.

'Then, when they decided to bring the character back, washed up on a shore somewhere — which I didn’t think was a great idea anyway — I asked for the same small raise. … They just cast a different actor.'

Bower was born Ralph Thomas Bower in Denver on January 3, 1938.
