Costco customers seethe with jealousy over new item only available in Canada - and it could rival the iconic hot dog deal

Costco fans have a new hero item at the retailer's food courts to rival the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo.

That fan favorite has been at the same price since the early 1980s, and the new finance boss Gary Millerchip promised last week that no price rise was planned.

A chicken strips and fries combo is now on offer, but there is a catch for US shoppers.

It is only available in Canada where it costs $6.99 - that is Canadian dollars, which is about $5 in the US.

After a Reddit user posted an updated Candian food court menu, they were inundated with replies. 'Chicken and fries would be such a hit in the states,' one wrote.

Another wrote 'I guess I gotta move to Canada.'

A Canadian asked: 'You guys don't have chicken strips down there? Legit the best thing on the menu.'

Canadian Costco fans love the strips so much that they have been trying to wok out who produces them.

The combo is not the only Costco food item only in Canada.

They also keep traditional Canadian poutine - fries smothered in cheese curds and gravy - to themselves.

US customers point out that they are unable to buy fries at Costco at all at Costco - strange given American love for them.

On the Reddit thread, a Canadian wrote: 'Wait… you guys in the US don't even have fries???'

Fans said that while the hot dog deal is the best value, the chicken strips could challenge it.

They also pointed out that the hot dog and soda combo is also $1.50 in Canada, about $1.09 in the US.

'$1.50CAD is basically free!' joked one user.

Costco has not raised membership prices since 2017

Last week, the new finance boss Gary Millerchip promised  that no price rise was planned.

But there has been no news on membership fees, which are a key source of revenue

Costco nets around $4 billion-plus a year from the fees, which are either $60 or $120 a year. They have been that price since 2017.

The company hasn't increased it annual membership fees in almost seven years.

It charges $60 for Business and Gold Star and $120 for Executive, which offers a 2 percent rebate on all Costco purchases made that year up to a total of $750.
