A social media user has claimed in a video that takeout boxes given to customers by a popular fast-food restaurant chain have gotten smaller.

The TikToker, who goes by JayFamily (@jayasuriyafamily), posted a video on June 6 showing off a white to-go box he received from his local Panda Express.

JayFamily did not clarify what meal size he ordered - but his Panda Express box contained at least two entrees and two sides including rice, meat, and vegetables.

'What we noticed was that it's not much food for what they used to give,' he said.

He and his family were unsure if the food serving or box size had changed - until he stuck his fork in the fried rice and made the alleged revelation.

Panda Express, however, denied altering the size of their containers or portions.

Panda Express offers its customers, at more than 2,400 US locations, various meal types, including a bowl, a plate, and a bigger plate.

The plate comes with one side and two entrees, while the bigger plate features one side and three entrees.

To-go orders for meals of that size usually come in white or black boxes, like the one that JayFamily received from one of its restaurants.

The social media user was shocked when he put his fork into the fried rice.

'It's not even an inch and a half deep,' said JayFamily.

He then claimed that Panda Express changed its boxes to make them 'even shallower.'

'It looks tall from the side, but when you look underneath, it's not that deep - it's even more shallow,' he said while holding up the Panda Express to-go box.

'I guess this is corporate America. Good job Panda.'

A Panda Express spokesperson said in a statement to DailyMail.com: 'Our top priority is to satisfy our guests.

'We have not changed the size of our containers or portions and remain committed to serving the innovative and quality comfort food our guests have come to expect.'

Food served at Panda Express locations is known to be packed with calories.

There are no rules regarding the exact amount of food, but The Daily Meal calculated in September 2023 that multiple entrees weigh between five and nearly 10 ounces per serving.

The Panda Express meal types do come with a certain number of sides and entrees, but customers can add an extra menu item to their order if they wish.

The restaurant chain has remained busy for years, but it has come with a share of social media arguments.

A Reddit user who claimed to be a Panda Express employee even started a discussion in 2021 regarding customers' frustration over portion sizes.

The Reddit user wrote the post on the Panda Express subreddit after she dealt with a moody customer who gave her a hard time.

'A customer wanted to have an attitude with me cause I gave her the standard shrimp for honey walnut shrimp,' she wrote.

'I just stood there because I’m not allowed to argue lol but I don’t even feel like arguing it’s just food.'

She proceeded to call herself someone who doesn't make the rules about serving portions at the restaurant.

'I’m just a regular worker - I don’t make the rules for portion sizes, so if I give you the portion size of whatever you want, please don’t take out your anger on me,' she wrote.

'I get in trouble if I give too much food so please if you have any inquiries take it up with the higher ups.'

Most commenters supported the Reddit user after the experience she allegedly went through, but commenters on JayFamily's recent TikTok video agreed with his statements or trashed the restaurant chain.

'I like Panda Express but they were never good value for the amount of food even a decade ago,' a TikToker wrote.

One person wrote that the restaurant chain 'used to stuff it so much' while another commented: 'Portions are a lot smaller everywhere you go now.'

'When I went to eat there the other day, I heard the manager say to the employees “a little less” on my orange chicken. Time to boycott and record like Chipotle,' a TikToker commented.
