The internet has been divided after a Virginia woman broke down in tears while reading a letter that was allegedly sent by the man who murdered her parents.

Ariel Jones, 28, read the words aloud to her followers on TikTok, claiming that she had received them from the person who made her an orphan at just four months old.

She uploaded the video with the caption: 'My parents' murderer wrote me back. I've been waiting almost 30 years for this moment!'

Although she did not reveal the name of the suspected writer, a news report by WDBJ-7 in 1995 revealed that Raleigh Dean Martin murdered Joseph Siffert Jr and his girlfriend Barbara Hackney - who Ariel says were her parents.

According to the decades-old news story, Martin shot his wife Marion before gunning down Siffert Jr and Hackney inside their own home.

The news report also said that Siffert Jr and Hackney's 'infant daughter was found in the residence unharmed,' whom Ariel claims to be.

According to death records online, the tragic ordeal took place on November 7, 1995.

Public records show that Martin, now 64, is still serving a life sentence in Nottoway Correctional Center, Virginia.

Ariel showed her followers an image of her mother and father from happier days - naming them as Joseph and Barbara.

An X user who re-shared Jones' video on June 7 also added another clip on their thread, showing the 28-year-old explaining the tragic events that took place.

In the video, Ariel claimed: 'He shot my father four times - the first shot was a kill shot into his lungs. He shot my mother five times - the first shot went to her heart.'

Martin pled guilty to capital murder for killing Siffert Jr and Hackney in February 1996 and was sentenced to life, according to an archived WDBJ 7 report.

Jones hinted that she was preparing to write a letter to Martin in her video after she explained the tragic events that led to the death of her parents.

As soon as she got the letter, she gave a small smile and proceeded to open the letter and read what it said.

Martin wrote in the alleged letter that it was 'really good' to hear from her and that he hopes she and her family are doing good.

'Thank you for the opportunity to write. I've been praying that somehow God would comfort you in a way that only he could do,' he wrote.

'I want you to know that I care about you and willing to help you any way that I can.'

Jones read that Dean had wanted to write, but he wanted her to 'break the ice' as he did not want to offend her.

He also congratulated her on making it through open heart surgery, her education, and raising two daughters.

'I would like to write some back and forth and I can call you if you'd like,' he wrote.

He concluded by writing: 'I'm glad you wrote. I have nothing but good intent. Please take care, Dean.'

Jones had a small smile after she read the letter, but she couldn't help but cry shortly afterward.

X users are divided by her reaction, including the original poster, who was 'confused' by Jones' joy.

'She is acting like her favorite pop start contact her... I'm confused,' an X user tweeted on June 7.

One person accused this action of being 'a weird fetish' and another noted that they 'didn't hear the apology.'

'Trauma bond. She had not healed from that tragic past and is trying to get solace somehow,' a X user tweeted on June 8.

'It is strange. But, this is how she is choosing to process the unimaginable,' another X user wrote.

'I just hope for her sake that it doesn’t negatively affect her relationship with the rest of her family.'
