Beloved California food critics Allan Borgen and Isabelle Busse have been killed after hitting a semi-truck head on in a devastating car wreck on Saturday while the pair travelled to Missouri.

Longtime Inland Empire restaurant critic Borgen, 75, who for decades hosted radio and television shows dedicated to food, was traveling with his 'Let's Dine Out' co-host and partner Busse, 54, when they were killed on Interstate 44, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

They said that a semi-truck crossed into oncoming traffic and hit their car head on.

According to Los Angeles Times, Borgen, who was behind the wheel was pronounced dead at the scene, while Busse was transported to hospital, where she later died.

The couple, who lived in Redland, were known for their love of food. Together, they hosted 'Let's Dine Out' weekly on KCAA.

KVCR Public Media, the Southern California media outlet Borgen worked for 32 years, confirmed his death on Monday.

'All of us at KCAA are deeply saddened at the tragic loss of our friends and fellow broadcasters,' KCAA General Manager Mark Westwood and Chief Executive Fred Lundgren wrote on Facebook. '4 p.m. on Saturdays will never be the same without ‘Let’s Dine Out.’ We will miss them greatly.'

They also hosted monthly 'Grub Club' dinners to connect with other food fanatics at local restaurants, which is where they reportedly met, according to the New York Post.

Borgen, a retired social worker, began working as a food critic in the 1990's. He was known for his sense of humour and collection of Hawaiian shirts.

Speaking to Redland Daily Facts, Busse's long-time friend said: 'She always had a really fun laugh; she was always up for anything', adding that 'Allan was just a sweet man, he always adored her.'
