A man has been arrested in dramatic scenes on a Virgin Australia plane in front of horrified passengers, just moments before the plane was due to take off.

The incident happened on board the domestic flight that was ready to depart Melbourne Airport on Tuesday.

Australian Federal Police officers were called to board the aircraft following reports that the passenger was allegedly behaving in an aggressive and disruptive way.

Confronting footage filmed by a fellow passenger shows the man being spoken to by police.

A male officer instructed the man to 'get off the flight', before the man said he is just sitting in his seat ready for the flight to go and that he paid $5000 for the flight.

A female officer warned the man he could be arrested if he didn't obey orders.

The man, who refused to get up from his seat, was given another warning to follow the instructions before the male officer tried to physically force him out of his seat.

'I've done nothing man, I'm so relaxed,' the man said.

The male officer then repeatedly asks the man to 'get up' before he threatens to use his taser.

'I'm going to give you a stun with the taser, are you ready for it,' the officer said.

'You need to get off the flight now.'

The man then demanded to know what he'd done, before he was physically removed from his seat and escorted from the plane by officers.

An AFP spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that flight crew requested assistance from officers.

'AFP officers arrested a male passenger and removed him from a domestic flight prior to departure for alleged aggressive and disruptive behaviour,' the spokesperson said.

'The AFP is continuing to investigate the incident.'

A Virgin Australia spokeswoman declined to comment on the 'ongoing police matter.'

It's unclear where the flight was headed, however multiple Virgin flights flew to all capital cities on Tuesday.
