A bride-to-be has been slammed over her 'tacky' attempt to raise money for her bachelorette party.

The discussion was sparked by an unnamed user on Reddit who took to the popular Wedding Shaming thread to share a picture of the unusual money-making scheme.

It showed a car daubed with a message to 'kind strangers' - presumably scrawled by the blushing bride herself or her bridesmaids.

Viewers were left bitterly divided in the comments - but what do you think?

The post, which was shared last week, was simply titled: 'Hello, kind stranger. Please contribute to my cash app!'

Beneath the caption, a snapshot showed a gray Toyota Camry sitting at a set of traffic lights.

The rear window was adorned with doodles of hearts and flowers as well as a message in thick white marker pen that read: 'She's tying the knot, buy the bride a shot.'

It then provided details for transferring money either via Venmo or Cash App.

Elaborating further in the comments, the original Reddit contributor wrote: 'I've never seen it before on a car just driving about town. In my circle this would definitely be done to humiliate.

'I have seen people wearing signs and stuff (before Venmo, etc) similar to this when they were actually doing their bachelorette party when I lived in Savannah.

'I thought that was fun and I have bought a couple of people drinks. It makes you feel like you're sharing some of that joy, telling them good luck, etc.

'Putting it on your car and driving around just feels tacky. Do it in the moment.'

Other social media users were left bitterly divided in the comments.

Many sided with the original post in failing to see the funny side as one person wrote: 'Why? Just why?'

Another added: 'I saw this on a lot of cars just before high school graduation where I used to live.

'The requests were for graduation parties, congratulation gifts, and even tuition assistance. This is just begging.'

A third said: 'When I saw a car like this I just laughed derisively and kept driving.'

But, on the other hand, there were those who defended the decision.

One wrote: 'Have you not seen this before? Who cares?'

Someone else shared: 'I don't think these requests are actually that big of a deal. No one's holding anyone at gun point forcing them to give their money to the bride.

'It's just a "hey if you want to" type of request and some people want to. It's a win/win for those people.

'The bride gets a few drinks during her party (and in this economy, who wouldn't appreciate a little help with that), and the person who sent a buck or two gets to feel good about themselves and check off their good deed for the day box. It's harmless.'

Another revealed: 'Exactly! Maybe I'm a sucker, but I've seen this like maybe five times over the years?

'Sent five bucks each time because I remember how much fun my bachelorette party and wedding were.

'I get to feel good and imagine that I helped someone else have as good a time as I did. I think that's 25 dollars well spent, personally!'
