Holidaymakers attempting to secure sunbeds were given a dose of instant karma when they saw their towels drenched by cleaners at a Tenerife hotel.

The footage was captured by an upset hotel guest, who was staying in a location that is notoriously popular with Brits.

The clip, posted to TikTok, illustrated the manoeuvres of some guests looking to bag themselves a poolside spot by laying down their towels on vacant sunbeds.

In a hilarious twist of fate, they were caught by the work of hotel cleaners who, unbothered by the towels, simply removed them to clean the beds and surrounding areas.

The hotel guests' towels were then completely soaked after the diligent cleaners left no stone unturned in their work.

Posting to the social media platform, TikTok user @lshucks asked their followers: 'Does this serve them right?'

The research carried out by travel agent On The Beach and bed company Silentnight also revealed that a quarter of Brits (25%) find sunbeds uncomfortable and 14% even wish they could transport their bed poolside.

Zoe Harris, chief customer officer at On The Beach said: 'We're fed up with sunbed wars, fed up of that 6am poolside dash and fed up of the sunbed anxiety holidaymakers face.

'That's why this summer we're solving the summer sunbed crisis once and for all, by guaranteeing our customers, not just any sun lounger, but one that will provide the upmost comfort.

'All you need to worry about now is which cocktail you'll order to your sunbed first.'
