Celebrity gossip columnist Perez Hilton says he hopes Justin Timberlake's arrest will act as an 'ego check' for the superstar after he spent 'decades skating through life.'
News hit the web on Tuesday that the former NSYNC member, 43, had been taken into custody for driving while intoxicated in exclusive Hamptons enclave Sag Harbor.
Now, media personality Perez, 46, has weighed in on the scandal to NewsNation.
He believes the hitmaker has spent most his career coming out of 'difficult situations' unscathed because of his famous name - and that this should pose as an eye-opener to him.
'I think what we're seeing is an ego check,' he told the publication. 'He's been able to, for decades, skate through life and difficult situations because he is Justin Timberlake, because he is rich and good-looking, and white and a man.'

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the Sexy Back crooner was pulled over shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Police reportedly saw him blow past a stop sign and observed him swerving across the road.
The father-of-two failed a field sobriety test, and he was handcuffed and arrested, a police report said. At the station, he refused to take a breathalyzer test.
According to Page Six, the arresting officer 'was so young, he didn't even know' who the singer was.
'He didn't recognize him or his name,' an insider told the publication, while a second source added, 'Justin said under his breath, "This is going to ruin the tour." The cop replied, "What tour?" Justin said, "The world tour."'
Perez also said it 'would not shock me if Justin Timberlake has driven drunk before.'
'And it didn't surprise me that his friends weren't more adamant that he shouldn't drive,' Perez continued.
'What we've been seeing over the last few years is what used to work for him doesn't work for him anymore, both professionally and personally.'
The blogger said he was 'surprised' Justin hadn't 'released a statement' yet regarding the incident, adding that acknowledging his mistake would 'go a long way.'

'But the fact that he hasn't, it's just indicative of how he's done things for so long,' he stated.
The one good thing that Perez thinks will come out of this is that it might push Justin to want to reunite with his NSYNC bandmates next year.
'Justin knows that his career needs that uplifting and the positive press and good will that reuniting with his former boy band members would bring him,' he said.

On Tuesday morning, Justin was seen being led across the bridge from Sag Harbor police headquarters to the village's Justice Court by police officers in exclusive pictures obtained by DailyMail.com.
The musician appeared shell-shocked as he looked straight ahead and had handcuffs on.
After a brief arraignment where he was banned from driving for a year in New York, he was released without bail, emerging from court wearing a baseball cap.
He was arraigned on one count of DWI, as well as running a stop sign and failing to stay in his lane. He is next in court on July 26.
Justin has admitted to using illicit substances numerous times over the years.
Back in 2006, he confessed to 'getting plastered' and 'doing his fair share of drugs' in secret, and he even said he believed he may get arrested one day for it.
'I've never been arrested... though that's not to say I won't,' the popstar revealed at the time.
'I'm just like everyone else, I get completely plastered, I've done my fair share of drugs and I've been caught with my pants down. I just make sure there are no cameras around.'

In 2019, the popstar blamed excessive drinking after he was caught cozying up to his costar, Alisha Wainwright, despite being married to Jessica Biel. He and Jessica are seen in 2018
Then, in 2013, he revealed at the SXSW Festival that he once attended Coachella Music Festival while he was 'tripping his mind out.'
'This is my first time here. I've been to Coachella many times, on many different substances,' he told Myspace at the event.
'I've been to Coachella many times but not remembered a lot of it, I'll leave it at that. [One year] I saw Weezer and I was standing in the middle of the field, tripping my mind out.'
Plus, in 2019, the popstar blamed excessive drinking after he was caught cozying up to his costar, Alisha Wainwright, despite being married to Jessica Biel.
He and Alisha were seen holding hands during a night out in New Orleans, and immediately rumors erupted that he had cheated on his wife.
Afterwards, Justin apologized for his 'lapse in judgement,' but insisted nothing happened between them.
'A few weeks ago, I displayed a strong lapse in judgement - but let me be clear - nothing happened between me and my costar,' he insisted in a statement on Instagram.
'I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior. I should have known better.
'This is not the example I want to set for my son. I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not it.'
Perez previously defended Justin after he faced an onslaught of backlash following the release of Britney Spears' memoir.
In the tome, Britney, who dated Justin from 1999 until 2002, accused him of cheating and claimed she had an abortion because Justin 'wasn't ready' to be a father.
Afterwards, Perez pointed out that Justin had already apologized to Britney and that 'he's not that person anymore.'
'The people who don't like Justin Timberlake are gonna continue to not like him, and his fans I think will continue to like him and understand that this was 20-plus years ago and he's not that person anymore,' he said.
