A man who attempted to shame a babysitter for allowing his daughter to eat '11 packs of gummy bears' took a hilarious turn when he found himself the subject of furious mockery online.
Houston-based real estate investor Brandon Avedikian took to X to relay details of the incident in an apparent attempt to raise awareness among other parents about the importance of trust with those whom you allow to care for your children.
'A babysitter allowed our 4 year old to eat 11 packs of gummy bears today,' he vented.
'When my wife discovered this, she asked the babysitter why she allowed this to happen.
'The response: “She kept asking for more,"' Brandon further described.
Houston-based real estate investor Brandon Avedikian ranted about what he saw as a babysitter's 'poor judgment' on X in letting his four-year-old have an excess of gummy snacks
In all, the four-year-old consumed just under 800 calories worth of gummy bears (stock image)
He went on to reveal that he and his wife had made the decision to fire the babysitter after the incident, writing: 'I told my wife not to let that babysitter anywhere near our children ever again.
'Nobody with that poor of judgment should be trusted with anything of value. Period.'
Brandon later specified that the brand was Black Forest.
On examining the nutrition label, one pouch has 70 calories, and 11 grams of sugar.
In total, that added up to the child consuming 770 calories of gummy bears, which also packs a whopping 121 grams of sugar, as one responder calculated.
A four-year-old girl should have about 1,200 calories per day, according to the American Heart Association - meaning that the child consumed more than half her day's calories in gummy bears alone.
But if Brandon had been hoping for sympathy from his fellow social media users, he will have been sorely disappointed.
Because while hundreds of people responded to his post, many only did so to poke fun at the situation.
'My kids want the babysitter’s number,' one wrote.
'Plot twist: Your daughter only had 1 pack. Babysitter ate 10 and was too embarrassed to admit it,' a second joked.
'Read this too quickly, and thought it said 11 gummy bears. Was thinking, hmm yeah that’s kind of a lot, but this guy sounds like he’s sorta overreacting that’s like less than one pack. 11 packs!' a woman wrote, adding a vomiting-face emoji.
'Yes my wife walked into a pile of empty gummy bear packages. I thought she was joking when she told me as it was difficult to believe an adult could be so incompetent!' Brandon described.
Hundreds responded to Brandon's tweet - some poking fun at the situation, others questioning if it was really fair to fire the relatively young babysitter for the error in judgment
Others questioned if the sitter's error in judgment was really serious enough to warrant firing her on the spot, suggesting that Brandon and his wife may be in the wrong for overreacting.
When someone pointed out that the judgment of an otherwise responsible teen-aged sitter may need to be taken 'with a grain of salt,' Brandon emphasized she was 'at least 20.'
'Did you have a conversation with the babysitter about food and snack protocol? Y’all might have some ownership here if there were not clear expectations…,' one pointed out.
'Having a babysitter, got a lot less stressful for us when we changed our mindset from them being our part-time replacement to "at least they kept our kids alive" as the only goal,' a second reasoned.
'I mean, did anyone die? Was anyone severely hurt? Is your child diabetic? So she made a mistake, now she knows. Why so dramatic? Have you ever done anything stupid when it comes to your kids? Life is only as dramatic as you make it,' added a third.
Yet a fourth chimed in to reminisce: 'He “told his wife"' - adding a laughing emoji - 'These parents today could take a lesson from ‘70’s parents. One night my babysitter’s brother brought his pet boa constrictor over to visit and I ate about 15 BB Bats and a pound of Pixie Sticks powder. And she was the strict babysitter.'
