A private island where Eleanor Roosevelt once spent her entire summers - and once owner by Brooke Shields - has hit the market for a touch under $3 million.
The 8.6-acre island, known as Camp Northwind, is in the middle of Chazy Lake in New York's Adirondack Mountains and accessible from the town of Ellenburg Depot by boat or private causeway.
The historic property, on the market for $2.97million, was built in 1928 by the popular early 20th century baritone opera singer and recording artist Reinald Werrenrath - and designed by the noted architectural firm McKim Mead & White.
Mrs Roosevelt spent so much time there she became close friends with her neighbors, agents told DailyMail.com.

The property was also owned by former child star Brooke Shields in the 1990s.
'Joan Crawford and Clark Gable were reported vacationing there during the time Werrenrath owned the camp,' listing agent Nancy White told SF Gate.
'There is nothing like it currently for sale in the entire Adirondack Park. It's unique with the old sandstone from the ground up to the second level all around the main house.'
The property's unique architecture and notable history saw it listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
'The second you drive from the causeway and reach the camp, you can tell that it's a very special place with plenty of attention to detail throughout,' said White. 'There are views of the lake from almost every window. It's very peaceful.'
