A solo travel influencer got emotional as she revealed the downsides to her nomadic lifestyle - admitting that her mental health was at an all time low and she's now suffering from panic attacks.
Ella Jae, 21, from Sydney, set off on her first solo adventure in 2022, and has been traveling around the world by herself for two years since - while documenting her endeavors online.
Despite the exotic places the content creator has traveled to, Ella posted videos to her TikTok recently admitting that living on a permanent vacation has it's downfalls - even when it looks perfect on social media.
She has now revealed that she has felt isolated and lonely since she began traveling alone, and announced that she was 'cutting her solo trip' short to go home because she feels like she 'needs help.'
'There's a lot of things at play here, and there's a lot of reasons I'm going home,' she explained in a video posted to her TikTok.

'The first is, I'm just not enjoying travel the way I used too. Especially in Central and South America where I speak English and I don't speak Spanish.
'I just think I need to be around the support of my friends and people that I love.'
'I'm very much struggling to be alone and I'm done doing it independently,' she admitted.
'I've fully experienced that as much as possible and I'm not getting out of it what I used to get out of it,' the weary traveler continued, adding that she feels adequately independent now.
Ella, who said she travels basically 'full time' went on to explain: 'Now, I'm at a point in my life where I need to lean on people, and I cannot lean on myself any longer because I actually think I'm going to go insane.'
The content creator assured followers that she still wants travel to be apart of her life, but added that she has come to the conclusion that she'd rather do it with other people.
'It's normal to need a shift and want a shift [and] I've already fully experienced what solo travel has to offer,' she revealed.
Ella's other reason for wanting to cut her trip short was due to the relationships she had formed while she was traveling - admitting she no longer wanted to make brief, transactional connections.

Ella said she wants to come back the places she planned on visiting when she's ready and mentally in a better mental state
'It can be very, very exhausting going into hostels and having people cycle through your life,' she added.
'You finally get to know someone and you finally build up a connection and then they leave or you leave - so you can't always align plans or travel together - you end up recycling the same conversation.'
Whilst acknowledging the friendships she formed were 'beautiful,' Ella said she's now at a point in her life where she wants to foster deeper relationships with her longtime friends she left behind in Sydney.
'I haven't been able to [foster deeper friendships] because I've been going out, traveling and developing these temporary connections - and there's no stability in that.
Ella admitted that her mental health has become so bad that she can't even leave the hotel room.

'I can't do a shared dorm because I'm just too frail,' she continued. 'And even if I do go outside I'm not finding the joy in things and it just feels like such a waste to be in such a beautiful place and to not enjoy it.'

Despite her hardships, Ella urged her followers to not let her video discourage them from taking a solo trip - saying it's still the 'best decision' she's ever made.
'I still want to inspire people,' she insisted. 'I think you just kind of know when your time comes to an end and if I'm in a state like this I should not be doing this right now - it's the opposite of what I need.'

'I’ve traveled a lot alone [when I was] younger and once my brain started to develop more I craved people to share experiences with,' one person shared.
'Solo travelling is BRILLIANT when you’re in the mood for it, and HELL when you’re not. Sounds like a great decision, get home safely,' encouraged another.
'You are not disappointing anyone,' assured someone else. 'Your posts bring joy regardless of where you are. You are doing amazing by sharing this message.'
'This is exactly the right decision. Well done you!' gushed a different user.
