In her post, she detailed the simple method: 'Take 2 banana peels and soak overnight in a gallon of water. Water your plants with the banana peel water. It's full of potassium and more.

The expert explained that the solution can be used on flowers, herbs and does not need to be refrigerated.

'I keep a jug going all the time and keep adding water as I use it up. I also throw in peels as I eat them.'

'The peels turn brown and you can discard them after you've added more peels. It's a great organic fertilizer. This is good on veggies, herbs, flowers and tomatoes.'

Carmen also shared the impressive results she has seen in her garden: 'I am using it on my green pepper too. My spearmint plant is huge as well and so is my dill is waist high. I have tons of green cherry tomatoes and beautiful green peppers.'

Her post quickly garnered attention, amassing over 2,000 comments from gardening enthusiasts who were eager to try the hack - while some confirmed the effectiveness of the solution, stating they 'swear' by it for growing herbs.

One person wrote, 'Yay finally a use for bananas I bought; looked at but didn't eat,'  while another said, 'Thank you my basil needs something!!!!'

A third commented, 'That's exactly what I use and it's fantastic for my basil,' while a another confirmed, 'I swear by it and I bury them in the soil too.'

However, not everyone was completely sold, as some commenters issued a word of caution regarding the use of ordinary banana peels, while others emphasised the importance of diluting the solution to avoid potential plant damage.

One person wrote: 'I would say use organic banana peels. Regular peels have a lot of pesticide in and on it.'

Another shared: 'My mum followed this advice and burnt the roots of all of her plants. You MUST dilute the solution.'

Meanwhile, a TikTok user has detailed how would-be gardeners can grow their own lifetime supply of fresh herbs with cheap packets you can pick up from the supermarket.

Martha, who shares gardening tips with her 212,800 followers, filmed the process start to finish with a small packet of cut rosemary she bought from her local Waitrose.
