A father was knifed to death by a jealous and obsessed ex-girlfriend who then sent horrific images of his lifeless and mutilated body to his loved ones, his heartbroken family has claimed.
Reynaldo, 63, was found fatally knifed in the chest in his former girlfriend's apartment on Watson Avenue in Soundview, in the Sotomayor Houses complex on Sunday morning.
Police sources revealed to Daily News that the killer ex-partner has since been identified as Mirda Degracia, 52.
The day before Luna's body was discovered, he had reportedly visited Degracia's apartment because he owed her $6,000, according to the family.
Officers from the 43rd Precinct and Police Service Area 8 rushed to the Bronx apartment on June 23 after receiving a 911 call about a reported stabbing.
Reynaldo Luna, 63, was allegedly knifed to death by his jealous ex-girlfriend Mirda Degracia, 52, on Sunday morning at her Bronx apartment
The father had reportedly visited the Sotomayor Houses complex the day before his body was discovered as he owed his ex-girlfriend $6,000, according to Luna's family
Upon arriving at the scene, cops found the 63-year-old unconscious and unresponsive while lying face up on the couch in the living room of Degracia's apartment.
He was found to have been stabbed several times in the chest with a kitchen knife, which was recovered at the horrific scene.
Medics rushed Luna to Jacobi Medical Center, but it was too late and the father succumbed to his severe injuries.
Police sources also revealed that following the horror attack from the obsessed ex-girlfriend, Degracia had sent images of Luna's dead body to his brother-in-law in the Dominican Republic.
He then contacted Luna's family who tracked his iPhone to Degracia's apartment.
'That's when I saw he was in the hospital,' Luna's son, John Luna, told the Daily News.
'She took pictures of his body at different angles.'
A cousin of Luna's then rushed to the scene where police were already carrying out their investigations.
In chilling voicemails obtained by the news outlet, Degracia allegedly admitted to killing Luna and requested an ambulance and police officers to come to her home.
John claimed that although she admitted to her actions, it didn't sound like she had any remorse.
Luna and Degracia met in the Dominican Republic several decades ago, but rekindled their romance when Luna moved back to New York City from Florida.
The couple had lived together for a few years before splitting up in December.
John revealed that although the couple were troubled, 'they didn't fight.
She would have her complaints surrounding jealousy, like, 'I don't know why he goes out and come back so late.' I think she wanted him to invest more in their relationship, but he was set in his ways I guess,' he added.
Following the split, the family claim Degarcia became obsessed and unhinged and ultimately ended up stalking Luna.
John recalled the ex-girlfriend contacting the entire family and admitted he had to stop replying to her messages as she would 'always be complaining about my dad'.
'She said a lot, 'I was your dad's before your mom,' the son added.
Degracia allegedly could not let Luna go and her behavior spiraled - causing her to become more erratic and even threatening to kill her ex-boyfriend in his sleep.
Luna reportedly became frightened of her, his family said.
The victim's niece, Edely Brioso, also claimed the woman was obsessed with her uncle.
'There's a difference between love and obsession. She was obsessed,' she said.
According to the devastated family, an incident once occurred which saw Degracia taking Luna's passport, phone, and citizenship certificate so he would be forced to stay with her.
Brioso added that the woman would even become jealous of Luna's sisters if he was spending time with them over her.
Following the incident, cops have arrested Degracia and charged her with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The family revealed they are still processing the horrific incident, and said that Luna had never contacted the police to report Degracia's behavior before his death.
