A man faced backlash online after revealing he refused to help his wife move into their new home for this annual retreat: a guy's weekend.
The 35-year-old hubby created a Reddit post to ask others if his opinion was wrong about the situation between him and his wife, 31.
He confirmed that the two of them began construction on his new home and that their property is near completion.
Unfortunately, the closing date is the same day as a scheduled five-day guy's trip, much to his wife's dismay.
'My wife wants me to go to my trip on Wednesday and then leave my trip Friday, canceling the rest of the vacation and not returning to the rest of the group,' he wrote.
A man, 35, sparked outrage from Reddit users have he explained in a post on the social media platform last week that he wants to skip out on moving day to go on a guys weekend
His wife, 31, was not happy with him wanting to skip out on house closing day despite the trip being planned months prior
'He and his wife have what the Reddit user wrote is' a strong marriage,' and he 'adores this woman more than anything.'
'She is the most perfect human on the planet and we do just about everything together. Typically, we communicate very well...,' he wrote.
'We just about do everything together. We already have children and are planning another right now, which is partly why we are building a larger home.'
His annual trip had been planned out and the Reddit user claimed he did not think it would coincide with the closing date before arranging the trip.
'Every year the guys and I rent a cabin and spend a Wednesday - Sunday board gaming. Our closing day falls on the Friday of my trip,' he wrote.
'This trip was planned well in advance - before we ever began construction on our home - and has long since been paid for.'
'What I plan to do is drive home to complete the closing and sign all the paperwork (it is only about an hour drive) then drive back to rejoin the rest of my group.'
Unfortunately, the communication between the Reddit user and his wife seemingly did not go well.
The 35-year-old and his friends rent a cabin and play board games together from Wednesday through Saturday every year
The Reddit poster's plan was to drive home to complete the closing and sign all the paperwork before going back to the cabin
His wife insisted that he be present for the move-in day despite the annual vacation he had planned with his friends.
'While I completely understand not wanting to move into a house by yourself - I have already gotten this taken care of,' he wrote.
'I have arranged for a friend of mine who owns a moving company to complete the moving of our stuff into the new home.'
The Reddit user added that he also made arrangements for individuals to hang up their televisions, mirrors, and curtains and for a technician to set up their internet.
The scheduled move-in plans were not enough to convince his wife to approve of him skipping out on house closing day.
'My wife is very angry with me that I won't cancel my trip and I think it is unreasonable for her to ask me to cancel,' he wrote.
'This is the one opportunity I get every year to get together with my guy friends to do something we love, and it is important to me.'
The 35-year-old insisted in his Reddit post that he attempted to explain how he felt about the guys trip, but she jumped back and told him that he was 'leaving her hanging.'
Prior to the issue, the Reddit poster had already arranged for a moving to company to move in all of their stuff and for someone to hang up curtains, mirrors, and televisions
Despite their bickering, the Reddit poster noted that he understood why she was antsy to close on the house.
'We have been staying at the in-law's house. She is ready to be in the new house, and I don't blame her,' he wrote.
'Her main concern is moving into the new home alone and being overwhelmed with the amount of work that will need to be done.'
He added that his wife told him she wanted their home to be a priority and she was also concerned about possible warranty issues.
The two of them managed to talk about everything regarding the trip and their moving day again and they came up with a solution.
'We have decided that I will come home on Friday to assist with the move and organizing following our closing. I will be present for anything and everything needed during the move,' he wrote.
'Then, after everything is moved in, she is fine with me going back to my trip unless there are other things that need to be done or we don't finish that day.'
He also agreed to cancel the remainder of his trip if other things needed to be done after closing on the house.
'We both think this is a reasonable compromise. I double asked what she needed from me and what her expectations were and this was her solution,' he wrote.
The pair successfully worked out their situation, but their compromise wasn't enough to make Reddit users call the 35-year-old an a******.
The Reddit user posted an update only a day after his initial post, in which he received hundreds of comments from users who trashed his opinions
'You're prioritizing two boys' nights over your wife. She's asking for you to be there for her to start your home together, and instead, you're trying to pay people to do it for you,' a Reddit user wrote last week.
'Any real friends would understand hey I'm closing on my house in the middle of this trip I need to be with my wife to move in.'
'She offered a compromise - go Wednesday through Friday and then help move in, and his counter was "I'll just pay to have it all done," another commenter wrote.
'The only compromise I would consider in her shoes would be that she also gets to plan a trip, and see if he's still as open to her doing that trip when he's alone in the house with unemptied boxes for three days.'
A few Reddit users also questioned the time frame regarding the house move and why everything must be done almost immediately.
'I'm so confused. I don't understand the necessity of such a tight time frame,' a Reddit user wrote.
'Having bought homes and moved a number of times, once you sign the papers and switch utilities, nothing is an emergency issue.'
