KFC has joined the fast-food value meal war, and its attempt to take down the competition has seemingly backfired.
The restaurant chain released a video ad on TikTok this month that promoted its Taste of KFC Deals, which start at $4.99.
The less than 20-second video ad showed viewers how to swiftly pack a KFC $4.99 Meal for One, which comes with a drumstick, a thigh, mashed potatoes with gravy and a biscuit.
The $4.99 Meal for One is one of three meals that are part of the Taste of KFC Deals, which became available at its restaurants last April.
Although the video ad was used to bring in good publicity, it instead received negative comments from TikTokers who criticized KFC and its meal.

The video ad showed viewers how to swiftly pack a KFC $4.99 Meal for One, which comes with a drumstick, a thigh, mashed potatoes with gravy and a biscuit.
'5.00$? That's for two small chickens, one biscuit, and one scoop of mashed potatoes. Not worth it,' a TikToker wrote on the June 7 video.
More than one commenter even criticized the meal packing, with some of them questioning why the packer didn't put coleslaw in the box.
'You forgot the paper/wax paper at the bottom of the box,' a TikToker who claimed to be a former KFC employee wrote.
Some users requested the restaurant chain bring back menu items like potato wedges, while others trashed KFC in general and claimed to remember the deal being $1.99 in the past.
'KFC is crap now. Every time I get it, the chicken is hard and dry and looks old as f***. Potatoes and gravy are on point though,' a TikToker wrote.

KFC is the second-largest restaurant chain in the world, the first being McDonald's.
Today, participating McDonald's restaurants started offering a limited-time $5 value meal nationwide.
The $5 meal allows a customer to choose between a McDouble and a McChicken and it comes with a four piece Chicken McNuggets, small fries and a small soft drink.
'We're committed to winning the value war,' Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald's US, said in an interview with Bloomberg News.
Customers in states like New York, California, and Hawaii may be disappointed because McDonald's restaurants in those states charge them $6 instead of $5.
However, the return of McDonald's' app-only "Free Fries Friday" that allows customers get a free medium fry with any $1 minimum purchase may make up for it since it will be offered at participating restaurants for the rest of the year.

KFC and McDonald's are joined by Burger King, which also offers its own $5 value meal.
Burger King confirmed in May that it would be re-releasing its $5 value meal called the $5 Your Way Meal.
The meal, which has been available for Burger King customers since June 13, comes with a choice between Whopper Jr., Bacon Cheeseburger and Chicken Jr, fries, a four-piece chicken nuggets and a soft drink.
The Wendy's $3 breakfast has also been going strong since it became available at select locations in May.
The deal includes an English muffin with either bacon, egg and cheese or sausage, egg and cheese, and a small portion of seasoned potatoes.
