Bill Maher has urged Democrats to dump president Joe Biden after his disastrous showing in last week's debate against Donald Trump.
The comedian and pundit wrote in an op-ed for The New York Times that the first debate between Biden and Trump was like the worst episode of The Golden Bachelor ever.'
Maher also took issue Biden allies claiming the president had a cold during the debate.
The Real Time host wrote: 'If he had a cold, why was he out campaigning the next morning instead of putting his 81-year-old body to bed?'
However, Maher said the debate was more a blessing in disguise than a tragedy, because it opened the opportunity for the 81-year-old president to step aside before the Democratic convention.

'Democrats can no longer afford to suspend disbelief,' wrote Maher, adding that an open convention would be much more exciting than another Biden run.
'[Democrats] would be hosting a competition, something Americans love,' Maher continued.
'Who will get the rose this August in Chicago? Gavin or Gretchen? Suddenly, Stacey Abrams might say she’s in! And so might Tim Ryan, and Josh Shapiro! And Amy Klobuchar and Ruben Gallego! And Mayor Pete and Raphael Warnock! And Wes Moore, and who knows, maybe Andrew Yang says he’s a Democrat again!''
Maher shared that his own choice would be California govern Newsom, because 'people are attracted to what looks like strength, much more than specific policies. And he looks great on TV.'
The comedian also dug into the president's disastrous debate in his opening monologue for his Max show, Real Time, on Friday.
Maher has regularly criticized Biden's chances at re-election, often declaring his age to be the biggest problem.
Earlier in June, Maher declared Biden's new immigration policy would cost him the presidency after he issued an executive action that limited the number of migrants who can arrive at the border and claim asylum to 2,500 per day.
Maher said: 'If Biden loses this election, it's going to be because of two things: He's old… and immigration.'
Meanwhile Biden’s campaign has spent the days since the debate — where he appeared raspy, trailed off, and at times gave convoluted answers — working to keep donors and surrogates on board as Democrats increasingly questioned whether he should stay in the race.
At this point in the delegate process, Biden would likely have to decide to drop out for there to be a new nominee. And the people he listens to most in the world — his wife and son — are telling him to stay in.
