While Dave Portnoy's interest in buying the Boston Celtics seems genuine, he joked about needing more funds to take ownership on the franchise.
On Monday, the reigning NBA champions announced that owners Boston Basketball Partners LLC plans to put its share of the franchise.
Following the statement - just over two weeks since winning their 18th franchise title - several fans quipped that the Barstool Sports chief should bid for ownership given his love for the team.
'If anybody has tens of billions I can have I'll buy the Celtics,' Portnoy wrote on X.
In response, a user urged Portnoy to use his sports gambling prowess to make up for the difference.

'Just win a couple more bets on DK (Draft Kings),' the user responded.
'Just hit a couple more bets,' another added.
Portnoy memorably won $1.6million from a $100,000 wager after parlaying the Celtics' winning the title with Scottie Scheffler's RBC Heritage victory.
The die-hard Celtics fan also infamously exited Tom Brady's New England Patriots Hall of Fame induction to catch Game 3 of the finals series against the Dallas Mavericks at a local bar.
'I'm like, I have to watch this f****** game,' Portnoy said after narrating how he failed to watch the game on his phone. 'This is Banner 18. Yeah, Tom Brady, I love you, but what's Tom Brady always say? What's his favorite banner? His favorite banner is the next one, and that's how I am.'
Fans quipped that Portnoy should make the money through his six-figure sports bets

'I move forward, I don't move backward, this is the NBA f****** Finals. It's not Game 2 of the regular season. If we win this game, it's f****** donezo. If we lose it, no Porzingis, series is back on. So yeah, I gotta go watch this f****** game.
After taking a commanding 3-0 lead, the Celtics suffered a lopsided 38-point loss in Dallas. However, they returned to Boston for Game 5 and closed the series in front of their fans.
After buying the team from Paul Gaston in 2002 for $360million, the owners - led by CEO Wyc Grousbeck - are selling the team during an abundant period.
According to Forbes, the Celtics were the fourth-most valuable NBA franchise in 2023 - at a valuation of $4.7billion.
During Boston Basketball Partners' 22 years in ownership, the team made four NBA Finals appearances and won two titles (2008 and 2024).
