The El Paso Police Department received a call from an unidentified person around 12.30pm on Sunday regarding a vehicle theft.

According to the authorities, Smith placed a second call to 911, stating that her child was missing and that she believed the subject who took her friend's car had taken the child.

Officers met with the initial caller and Smith, and after an extensive search was conducted, the vehicle was found, but the child was still missing.

The non-profit, Crimes Against Persons Detectives were called in to assist in the investigation.

The investigation revealed the child did not exist, and Smith hatched the plan so police could locate her friend's vehicle quickly.
