A woman has been accused of scamming hundreds of people by impersonating her social worker wife in online therapy sessions for two years before she died.

Tammy Heath-Randolph allegedly treated unsuspecting patients using Peggy Randolph's name as she was a licensed therapist.

The accusations came to light following Tammy's death in February 2023 as a client discovered on social media that she was the one treating them, according to the Tennessee Department of Health.

Peggy worked for Brightside Health from January 2021 to February 2023 and her wife was allegedly treating all her online patients so she could see more people in person.

The therapist voluntarily retired her license in August 2023 following an investigation by Brightside Health which found she shared her log-in details with her wife.

Peggy is accused of helping Tammy impersonate her in online therapy sessions for nearly two years.

Authorities said she knowingly defrauded hundreds of patients using the Brightside Health platform.

But the social worker denied the accusations and said she did not know her unlicensed wife Tammy was treating people under her account.

Investigators said Peggy was being paid for the sessions her wife conducted.

An internal Brightside Health investigation claimed Tammy had been seeing all of her wife's online patients 'and had been for a long time'.

The scheme is said to have been carried out so Peggy had more time to see other patients in person.

Following the loss of her license, the social worker was ordered to pay a $1,000 penalty.

The investigation against Peggy was dropped because she voluntarily retired her license.

It only came to light after Florida and Tennessee released documents on her conduct in May.

A Brightside Health spokesman said Peggy was fired and reported to state licensing authorities as soon as they learned of the allegations.

'We're extremely disappointed that a single provider was willing to violate the trust that Brightside and, most importantly, her patients had placed in her,' the spokesman told CBS.

The company has refunded all of the impacted patients who allegedly saw Tammy.
