Family outraged after being told their baby isn't actually buried at grave they'd been visiting for years

A grieving couple are demanding an apology after discovering their daughter wasn't actually buried at the grave they had been visiting for years.

Bryan and Katie Black, from Lexington, Kentucky, had been routinely seeing their daughter Avery's grave since she tragically died during birth seven years ago.

They said they would often decorate the grave and visit with their two young children, but were left heartbroken on Memorial Day when they stopped at the site only to find her grave marker was missing.

Avery's grave marker had been moved almost 30 feet from its original spot, and the parents said they were stunned to be told that her body and grave had been in separate spots since she was buried.

When Avery was born, Katie said she was crestfallen to have to go through the process of giving birth without being able to celebrate her new arrival.

'I still had to go into labor, deliver her, all the things. We just didn’t get to bring her home from the hospital,' she told Arizona Family.

With their two young children, the couple say they still visit 'multiple times a year.'

'Birthday, sometimes Fourth of July, just to decorate and spend the holidays that we don’t get to share with her,' Bryan said.

But Katie said their frequent visits have been tainted after the discovery, as they have 'picture after picture after picture of all of our children out at that site, and that all happened in a different spot.'

She said they contacted the Lexington Cemetary to inquire why their daughter's grave site was moved, who told them the new spot was the correct site all along.

'The gentleman that came out very defensively, to talk to us about what happened, he kept telling me, "No she’s buried here, she’s buried here." And I said how do I know that for sure?'' Katie continued.

'It took seven years for them to realize her body and her marker were in different spots. I know that it’s not her, it’s just her body, but I feel like I hadn’t been visiting her.'

They said they would like a formal apology from the cemetery, but have so far not had any form of positive response.

'We’ve been asking for them to produce us actual proof on who signed off on it and who actually dug it. Is this where she’s supposed to be?' Bryan said.

'We’ve got nothing but scribble or no response or no sympathy.

'I want a written formal apology. I want a public apology. I want apologies for everybody else that they affect.'

The grieving couple added that they still have no actual proof that the new site is correct, and have only been given a hand drawn map noting the grave site

Arizona Family reported that the Lexington Cemetery declined to comment. The cemetery did not immediately respond to a request for a statement from DailyMail.com.
