Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden by five points in a new poll in Wisconsin, a critical battleground that Biden carried in 2020 that is a key part of one of his most promising routes to reelection.
Trump leads Biden 50-45 in a head-to-head matchup in a FabrizioWard / Impact Research poll conducted for AARP.
His lead is 44 to 38 when Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other lower polling candidates are surveyed.
The poll comes after Biden's debate disaster, as Democrats are debating whether to try to pressure Biden to step back from running amid fears he will be a drag down the ticket.
In a result consistent with some other battlegrounds, Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin is outperforming Biden.
Baldwin leads Republican Eric Hovde 50-45, a mirror image of the margin by which Trump leads Biden.
President Joe Biden trails Donald Trump by 5 points in a new poll out of Wisconsin
Baldwin is among those Democrats up for reelection who have raised questions about Biden's prospects as a candidate. 'I traveled the entire state during the recess' over July Fourth, she told DailyMail.com Tuesday.
Baldwin said she 'heard a lot of concerns about the president's capacity to win this election. And so I think everyone's looking carefully at his performance this week,' she said on a day senators and House members huddled separately about the Biden situation.
Trump holds polling leads in many of the key battlegrounds, as Democrats assess whether to try to push Biden off the ticket
Biden flipped Wisconsin to defeat Trump in 2020, winning about about 20,000 votes, even as Trump and his GOP allies contested and denied the results.
It is one of a trio of Rust Belt battlegrounds, including Michigan and Pennsylvania, that provide a path to victory for him, amid a poll slide in other states he carried like Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona.
The poll was in the debate after Biden's debate. Another poll, by Bloomberg / Morning Consult, that extended through the July 4th weekend, had Biden leading Trump 47-44.
Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio's firm conducted the survey.
