The University of Alabama has filed an opposition to a trademark application being sought by LIV Golf's '4 Aces' team.

According to sports law attorney John Nucci, the school is arguing that 'The 4 Aces design contains the "same literal element" as Alabama's.'

The filing adds that the style of the lettering for the 4 Aces 'is visually similar and creates a commercial impression similar to' the Alabama design.

Both LIV Golf and the University of Alabama did not respond to DailyMail.com's request for comment on this matter.

The 4 Aces team is helmed by captain Dustin Johnson and features Pat Perez, Patrick Reed, and Harold Varner III.

This is not the first time that LIV Golf has been hit with trademark challenges.

Last year, Cool Brands Supply - the Argentine company who owns the intellectual property rights to Fallen Footwear - sued Phil Mickelson's HyFlyers GC.

The company asserted that Mickelson's HyFlyers logo was 'nearly identical' to the 20-year-old trademarked logo from the shoe brand.

Eventually, Mickelson's team altered their logo in December of 2023 to prominantly feature the letter 'H' as opposed to the old logo, which was a pair of reflected letter 'F's.

In addition to the Cool Brands lawsuit, German sports brand Adidas filed a lawsuit against LIV Golf in September of 2023 - alleging that the golf circuit's logo 'incorporates three stripes in a manner that is confusingly similar to the Adidas Marks in appearance and overall commercial impression.'
