A local gospel singer was wounded during a shootout at a fair in the central Brazilian city of Goiânia when the gunman missed his intended target.

Keyla Silva, 49, was paying for an item at a kiosk when a gunman opened fire on Sunday.

The assailant - who remains at large - shot and killed a man before he fired his weapon at the victim's girlfriend and struck Silva instead, the Goiás Military Police said.

Silva was rushed to Governador Ótavio Lage de Siqueira State Emergency Hospital, where she remained hospitalized as of Thursday.

The hospital released a statement Wednesday and said that Silva was in stable condition. conscious and breathing on her own.

Three people were questioned following the shooting, but cops have not caught the gunman.

Surveillance camera footage showed customer mingling around tables at the fair when they began to run as shots were fired. Some dove to the ground to prevent from being hit by the gunfire.

A separate security camera showed an individual appearing to be gunman firing his weapon towards the ground.

Silva's husband, Max Costa, told Brazilian news outlet G1 that the bullet was still lodged in her hip.

'The bullet needs to be removed to prevent infection,' he explained. 'Due to the location of the projectile, they are studying the best way to do it, because surgery can be a bit risky.'

Costa said he and his wife, who also does missionary work for their local church, always visited the fair on Sundays to eat dessert.

'My wife was in the wrong place at the wrong time,' he said. 'She went to buy a pastry for my mother-in-law and, when she went to pay, a man arrived and shot a young man who was behind her.'
