An Oklahoma mother allegedly tried to burn her daughter's cat alive on a grill before the animal was rescued after her daughter heard raucous meowing.

Veronica Carrillo was arrested on animal cruelty charges and remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.

On June 26, Carillo's 16-year-old daughter called 911 to report that her mother allegedly tried to burn her cat on the barbecue grill, according to a news release from the Moore Police Department.

Her daughter, who is a minor and whose name was not disclosed, told officers she was looking for the cat when she suddenly heard her pet's cries, court documents revealed.

When she rushed to the backyard, she saw a 'black trash bag wrapped around an animal carrier on top of the grill with visible flames underneath,' the records showed.

Carillo escaped the home through a window and was found on a neighbor's front porch hiding under a rug when officers arrived, KFOR News reported.

Bodycam footage captured the sickening details Carillo told officers telling them, 'I was cooking out and the cat got burned.'

'Had to be done, you know, I'm sorry,' she sad.

The innocent cat survived the terrifying ordeal thanks to her owner's quick-thinking actions that saved her from death's door.

Traumatized but alive, the tortoise-colored cat sustained burns to her paws and whiskers, police said.

The plastic bag had also melted onto the pet carrier in places.

A department spokesperson said, 'thankfully, the animal was walking around, appearing to have avoided serious injury, and is expected to make a full recovery,' The Kansas City Star reported.

In the video, the officer is heard asking Carillo, 'What had to be done?'

She responds, 'I mean I had to cook.'

Although the officer then asks, 'What were you cooking?' Carillo doesn't respond.

Her family has placed a protective order against her, according to the news outlet.

Meanwhile, neighbors were horrified upon hearing the news.

'Its just heartbreaking to hear this,' Lynn Davis told the news outlet.

She called Carrillo's alleged act 'inhumane' and said she was 'totally disgusted.'

'We need to send a message to anyone abusive to any animal, and this is horrific. She needs time in jail, possibly prison,' she said.

Carrillo is due back in court later this month, KFOR reported.
