Aaron Rodgers has finally addressed his 'beautiful' trip to Egypt with the media after skipping the New York Jets' mandatory minicamp to visit the banks of the Nile last month.
Speaking from the American Century Championship golf tournament near Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Rodgers confirmed reports that he was in Egypt in June when he skipped mandatory minicamp after participating in voluntary OTAs.
The team has ruled that Rodgers' absence was 'unexcused' resulting in over $100,000 in fines for the decorated quarterback, who is coming off a ruptured Achilles tendon that kept him out of all but one series of the 2023 season. Rodgers is expected to attend training camp beginning July 22 in Florham Park, New Jersey.
'I felt good all spring,' Rodgers told NBC Sports during the celebrity golf tournament. 'Had a nice OTAs. Had a beautiful trip to Egypt. And this [tournament] is like the last marker – summer is over on Sunday.
'Walking up (hole) 18 is like super bittersweet, but it's fun to be out here.'
Aaron Rodgers finally addressed to the media for the first time since his trip to Egypt
The off-season has been good to Rodgers' golf game.
The former Super Bowl champion claimed he had a hole in one during a recent outing in Las Vegas.
'My first round out, I was fortunate or lucky enough to make an ace at 17 at Shadow Creek,' Rodgers said. 'That's been the highlight of my golf offseason.'
While Rodgers remains at the top of the Jets' depth chart, the team has otherwise seen significant turnover at quarterback.
Backup Zach Wilson was traded to Denver, while the Jets added veteran Tyrod Taylor and drafted Florida State's Jordan Travis.
Like Rodgers, Travis is coming off a season-ending ankle injury of his own after fracturing and dislocating the joint during a Seminoles game in 2023.
