Carlos Alcaraz today took a commanding two set lead in the Wimbledon men's final against Novak Djokovic in front of the Princess of Wales and her daughter Charlotte.

The 21-year-old Spaniard has got off to the perfect start in a powerful display of pinpoint tennis to win the first two sets 6-2 6-2 in an hour and 15 minutes.

Having elected to receive, Alcaraz showed his intent from the off to break the Serb's serve in a gruelling 14-minute opening game.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner had no answer to Alcaraz's power as he broke again to take a commanding 4-1 lead at SW19 before seeing out the set 6-2 in front of a star-studded crowd that included Hollywood A-listers Julia Roberts and Tom Cruise

And he repeated the feat again in the second set to break Djokovic's serve two more times to take a commanding two set lead as he bids to become a back-to-back Wimbledon champion.

A beaming Princess Kate waved as she was welcomed with huge cheers and applause from the crowd as she headed to the front row of the Royal Box with her daughter Princess Charlotte, 9.

It is just her second public engagement since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March.

The royal, who opted for a purple dress, is a huge tennis fan and is a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and will present the trophy to the winner on court.

A cute and confident Charlotte appeared to be enjoying her Wimbledon experience as she was spotted clapping and cheering the players on while in another touching moment her mother leaned in for a chat.

Princess Kate arrived at the tennis tournament in SW19 less than an hour before the final was due to begin on Sunday afternoon.

Serbian Djokovic is bidding to become the oldest Wimbledon champion at the age of 37 and with it extend his record-breaking Grand Slam tally to 25

Alcaraz showed his intent early on during a gruelling 14 minute opening game to break Djokovic's serve after the Serb had saved four break points.

He then followed that up with hold of serve to 15 in a rapid three minute game that included a venomous 136mph serve.

The Spaniard went on to break Djokovic's serve for a second time before easing to win the first set 6-2 in 41 minutes.

And just as in the first set Alcaraz broke the Djokovic serve in the first game of the second set before repeating the feat again to take a 5-2 lead.

Actors Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts and former tennis greats Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, Rod Laver, and Stan Smith were among the crowd.

Benedict Cumberbatch wore a blue suit while wife Sophie Hunter stunned in an eye-catching yellow dress as they arrived hand-in-hand.

In a personally-signed message on social media, the princess wrote: 'An incredible £Wimbledon career comes to an end. You should be so very proud @andy-murray. On behalf of all of us, thank you! C.'

Sir Andy was due to play mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu but the former US Open champion pulled out of the clash, citing stiffness in her right wrist.

Kate visited the championships several times last year and presented Alcaraz with his first Wimbledon trophy after watching him battle Djokovic in the men's singles final.
