I think they were the best team in the tournament. We didn’t keep the ball well enough but we were in it until the last. I am devastated for everyone, players have been incredible, I am so proud. We had a little bit of momentum. Big chance at the end to equalise as well but I’m not sure we did quite enough.
Against Spain, you have to keep the ball when you win it back. We were fine defensively in the first half but that takes it out of your legs. There's no hiding from we have had a lot of issues. We have managed to deal with most of them but we have fallen short.
The players have got to take enormous credit for getting us as close as they did. I am proud of the way they have fought, represented the shirt with pride, never beaten until five minutes of the last game. We didn’t quite keep the ball well enough, they had more control, and that made the difference.
I don’t think now is a good time to make a decision. I have to talk to the right people. It is not for now. England are in a really good position in terms of the experiences they have now and the age of the squad. This squad will be around for the next World Cup. There is a lot to look forward to but that is no consolation.
I suspect it will be Southgate's last game. From where he took over and where they are now. There will be great disappointment at home. Yes, we could have played more attacking football but they have got to the final. But when you are here, you have got to get over the line.
The reality is he got us to a final three years ago and got us to a final here, and hasn't won. That will hurt him and maybe he will think it's time for someone else.
England were not brave enough on the evening to make the next step. It is a good thing for football that Spain won the tournament with the brand they have played. Spain played the beautiful game and England didn't - the beauty of Gareth's team has been getting over the line.
You have to feel for them. There are some broken hearts out there. The best team did win, the best team won tonight. England were in and out of the game and didn’t really have total control of any of it. Spain were too good for them in the end. What a sad way to go out. It was meant to be a lot different to this.
I appreciate the history and responsibility of it. I wasn’t certain I ever wanted to do it, I’m really pleased I have. Some things are worth more than football.
We are in an extreme environment. I have got less worried about things going wrong as I got older. I have stepped in the other direction. We have been close to taking Jude [Bellingham] off in every game, he looks like he has run his race every time I look at him but he can produce special moments.
One of the proudest things is I have discovered resilience that I didn’t know I had. I don’t know what to feel at the moment. I am in a place where it might define me for others, but not for myself.
Our sports news correspondent Mike Keegan has been saying on our Its All Kicking Off! podcast all week that this would feel like an England home game and he was right.
I would say England fans outnumber the Spanish by about 5-1. It really is quite something to see. Myself and Chief Sports Writer Oliver Holt seem to be sitting in the Spanish section of the press box, though, so anything could happen between now and 11pm.
I feel for Kieran Trippier. He's done a job for the team in a position that negates his most obvious strength - his right boot - but has done it without fuss and, for me, I think he's performed well.
Luke Shaw coming in on the left is a gamble - it's his first start since February - but it does give more balance and opens the pitch up for England. I don't think he's got a full 90 minutes in him, however. And by the way, he's up against Lamine Yamal!
It has been an amazing 10 days to have a Labour government hit the ground running. Electoral victories do not drop from the sky, it is the same for the England manager. You do not get there through luck.
I can totally relate to Southgate, when I started they said I would not get it over the line, turn it around, Gareth starts and people say it’s not good enough, this is a fantastic squad, he is a great manager. They should be so proud, we are all proud.
The whole squad has been brilliant but to see Declan [Rice] and [Biukayo] Saka down that right-hand side, even as left back for a little while. I am very proud of those two but [also] the whole squad. There is such optimism, I have just come from London. I don’t know about a bank holiday, let’s get through the next few hours, we need to make it in an appropriate way.
Jordan Henderson has driven all the way over from Amsterdam to watch his former international colleague’s date with destiny here in Berlin tonight.
The Ajax midfielder, who was left out of the England squad for Euro 2024, struggled to get flights to Germany’s capital so has taken matters into his own hands by jumping in a hire van to get here with his young children to support Gareth Southgate’s side.
It took the former Liverpool captain around eight hours to get here on the road but was determined to cheer his England team-mates on.
All the stats point to a Spain victory here at this magnificent stadium. Spain, for example, scored three times in the first half of their opening game against Croatia four weeks ago.
England didn’t match that total until Jude Bellingham’s overhead kick against Slovakia in the 96th minute of their fourth game!! But none of that matters tonight. I have a hunch and it says 1-0 England.
Nigel, Devon: Why wouldn’t you start a player against one of the best teams in the world who has been injured all season and played about three games! Makes total sense!
Iain, Richmond: I think this is a bit of a gamble. He’s not played much recently also Spain's wingers have lots of pace which could expose his match fitness.
Anonymous: Why change a winning formula?
It’s a little messy down near Friedrichstrasse in Berlin, where England fans have been gathering around an Irish pub for the last 24 hours. Crates upon crates of beer have been brought in from neighbouring shops - and the police are keeping a close eye but there’s no sign of any real trouble.
Speaking to Betfair, Shearer said: 'There are going to be several key battles on Sunday. Rodri is without doubt the best midfielder in the world at what he does, I don’t think there’s anyone better than him. He plays a huge part in everything that Spain and Man City do.
'Also, if you look at their two wingers with Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal on either side, the key battles will be those two against England's full-backs. There will be so many brilliant individual battles all over the pitch and it'll probably take a piece of brilliance from someone to win it.
'For Yamal, a 16-year-old to even be on the pitch is amazing but for a 16-year-old to stick one in the top corner and make it look so easy like he did against France just isn't normal. Dani Olmo will also be looking to go and get the golden boot, he has been wonderful for Spain. They have some great players but so have we.
'Kobbie Mainoo got the better of Rodri in the FA Cup final and he's been sensational for England at Euro 2024. He’s looked so comfortable in that midfield and for someone so young and without a lot of experience, the way he's performed for England you'd never know that he hasn't been in the game that long'.
