Felipe was not joined by his wife, Queen Letizia for the event, amid rumours swirling around about the couple's relationship.

The latest bombshell claims from Letizia's former brother-in-law Jaime Del Burgo, who earlier this year suggested they had an 'affair' after her marriage to the King.

The businessman - who dated the Queen when she was still a newsreader and was married to her sister Telma from 2012-2014 - has since claimed that he is still in contact with the royal in an interview with Argentinian newspaper Clarín.

He said: 'We have shared many years of our lives together. We have been a family. s I have always said, ours was not a relationship of lovers. The lover would be him, in any case. I mean Felipe.'

But Letizia and Felipe have made no public response to the claims.

King Felipe's eldest daughter and heir to the Spanish throne, Princess Leonor of Spain, was not in attendance as she recently travelled to Portugal on her first official solo visit abroad.

The royal, 18, stuck with what she knew and took style inspiration from her mother, Queen Letizia - who often sports eye-catching, vibrant ensembles.

The heir to the Spanish throne donned a ruby outfit consisting of a crisp button-up blazer and matching flared trousers

Not wanting to draw attention away from her bold fashion statement, Leonor stepped out in satin nude heels and wore a simple white t-shirt underneath her jacket.

The future Queen looked in high spirits for her first official trip away by herself as she was snapped getting into the private jet with a huge smile on her face.

She flew to Lisbon and was received by the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at Belém Palace.

He presented her with one of the country's highest decorations after inviting her to visit the country.

According to the official Spanish Royal Family website, the visit had a particular focus on environmental protection and ocean conservation.
