In a country measuring more than 3.8million square miles it can be hard to find cities that are easily accessible on foot. 

Visiting a walkable city in the US can help tourists and locals gain access to scenic and fun adventures all while saving money on travel by car, plane or train. 

Top travel experts with USA Today narrowed down the top 10 best walkable cities in the country that each offer their own unique features for pedestrians.

1. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 

In the top spot came Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. 

The city, most known for its history and culture is also known to be very walkable for both tourists and residents. 

Philadelphia, also known as the City of Brotherly Love, served as the nation's capital until 1800. It holds some of the most popular tourist destinations, including the Liberty Bell Center,  Independence Hall and the Betsy Ross House. 

People who aren't interested in the historic side of the city can easily enjoy themselves in other ways by grabbing drinks at stellar restaurants or eating staple food items like a Philly soft pretzel or cheesesteaks. 

There are also multiple parks for people to walk through, along with walking paths to the historic Old City and Rittenhouse Square neighborhoods. The large city has a population of more than 1.5million.

The Sunshine State's very own Key West came in third place. 

The tropical getaway comes with a very laid back atmosphere, fit perfectly for those who want to walk around and explore.

People can also be joined by chickens that are known to stroll along the beach and on the street in the city of more than 24,680.

Though it is known most for being a beach area, people are sure to have fun in town and near the shore. 

The city is located on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Florida and has a population of more than 15,600.

Many people enjoy strolling in Oak Park, Noble Square, East Ukrainian Village, Lincoln Park and the West Loop. 

Along the way there are also many restaurants and bars to stop at.

Composed of five boroughs- Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island, both residents and tourists depend on walking to get them around. 

Some even say that walking all five boroughs, though long, is possible. The population in NYC as a whole is more than 7.9million.
