A mom has issued a stark warning after her son's car seat was left scorched in a terrifying ordeal.

Emily Perna, from West Virginia, recently took to Facebook to unravel the frantic mishap caused by a car seat mirror.

Many parents secure the reflective panels to headrests in the back in order to keep an eye on kids placed in rear-facing car seats - but Emily said hers turned into a safety risk.

She detailed the moment she knew that one-year-old Luca was in trouble before she had to leap into action, adding: 'I can't express how fast it happened.'

And dozens of other parents have since come forward to praise her for alerting them to the dangers.

In her original post, uploaded last month, Emily explained how Luca had been strapped into a rear-facing car seat - but then she saw 'the craziest thing.'

She wrote: 'I'm posting this to maybe help another mother out in the heat this summer.

'I was unloading Luca out of his car seat today for Bible Study and I noticed that the sun reflected off of his infant car mirror and his car seat started smoking.'

The mom later told Today that she initially thought it was dust particles in the air, admitting: 'I actually can't believe I noticed it, that's how faint it was at the start.'

But she said that it soon started to look more like 'steam' and 'very quickly it was getting thicker.'

Emily wrote: 'I can't express how fast it happened and how fast I moved to get him out.

'I was shocked and I have never heard of these mirrors doing this before so PLEASE be aware that they can do this! I thank God that he is alright.'

The concerned mother said that the light reflecting off the car seat mirror was actually causing the seat to burn - although there was 'never a flame.'

And so, after picking Luca up, she used her free hand to immediately remove the mirror from the car before it caused more damage.

Speaking to the outlet, she concluded that 'in hindsight, I really think he would have been burned' had she not acted so swiftly.

Emily's original post was flooded with comments - as many parents displayed their empathy for her daunting situation.

One person wrote: 'Praise God. The precious angel is okay! That's all that matters.'

Another added: 'Oh my god! I am so glad the kiddo is okay. This is terrifying.'

Someone else shared: 'I had to share this. Thank you for getting the word out. I am so grateful that you and your family are OK.'

And a fourth dished: 'Thanks for sharing, cause mom of three here, and obviously mirrors reflect, but never once would I have ever thought to the point of fire/smoke like this!

'It's just what we do to see our babies in the vehicle. So glad everyone is safe and thank you for sharing your information for everyone!'
