After decades in the spotlight, Michael Schumacher went from iconic speed demon to a retired racing recluse following his tragic skiing accident in 2013.
Considered by many to be the greatest driver of all time, Michael has been living a life of secrecy ever since his horror skiing smash - with his family releasing few details about the racing legend.
Meanwhile, his brother Ralf was overshadowed by Michael's success and was unable to reveal his sexuality for years until he finally declared on social media last weekend that he was in a relationship with a man.
His declaration has firmly thrust the Schumachers back into the public limelight and is the latest drama to hit family, which has seen Ralf's son estranged from his mother, OnlyFans model Cora, who was married to Ralf prior to his coming out.
Michael's wife, matriarch Corinna, is working hard behind the scenes to keep the Schumacher clan together as she closely guards his privacy and keeps a iron grip on who is allowed to visit Michael since he suffered his near-fatal brain injury.
MailOnline has taken a closer look at the personal lives of those around Formula One champion Michael, their relationships and the glue binding them together.

A veritable motorsport legend and titan of the Formula One paddock, Michael Schumacher is considered by many to be the greatest driver of all time.
The German maestro won seven World Drivers' Championships between 1994-2004 - a feat only equalled by Sir Lewis Hamilton - and notched up a dazzling array of records.
He also became one of the most beloved sportsmen in both his native Germany and Italy, thanks to his unparalleled success with iconic marque Ferrari.
But on December 29, 2013, his life was swiftly and irrevocably altered by a tragic accident, which at the time seemed scarcely believable - and cruelly ironic.
Schumacher had expertly piloted the world's most savagely fast and dangerous machines for more than 15 years, achieving unparalleled glory before retiring in good health in 2012 aged 43.
Just one year later while on a family holiday in the French Alps, the speed demon was caught out in a freak fall mere metres away from a popular ski slope that resulted in critical head injuries.
The sporting icon has remained hidden away from the public eye ever since, with Schumacher's health journey over the past decade shrouded by an almost impenetrable veil of secrecy.
The seven-time world champion was enjoying a family holiday in the French ski resort of Méribel and embarked on a seemingly routine skiing excursion with his then 14-year-old son Mick when disaster struck.
While descending the highly popular Combe de Saulire route, Schumacher opted to venture off-piste, entering into a small sliver of uncombed powder between Piste Chamois and Piste Biche that was peppered with small rocks.
The master driver was also a highly adept and committed skier - his skill was such that he had a run named after him at the Italian resort of Madonna di Campiglio, where Ferrari hosted its annual winter retreat.
But despite the relatively gentle gradient and the short distance of the off-piste section, a hidden danger was lying in wait. The snowfall had concealed some of the boulders from view, turning the powder paradise into a minefield.
Schumacher's skis clipped one such boulder and the sudden force catapulted him into the air - leaving him powerless to avoid a head-first collision with another rock.
The impact was devastating. Schumacher's helmet absorbed much of the force, but the severity of the accident cracked the hard shell and fractured Schumacher's skull, leading to a traumatic brain injury.
Having been placed into a medically induced coma, he underwent two brain surgeries, surviving both against all odds, but remained in critical condition for the first few months of 2014.

Schumacher's skis clipped one such boulder and the sudden force catapulted him into the air - leaving him powerless to avoid a head-first collision with another rock
In April, doctors began the painstaking process of gradually withdrawing him from the coma, and by June he was deemed safe to move.
He then travelled to Lausanne University Hospital for continuous rehabilitation, before leaving the facility in September to the £50m Schumacher family home in Gland, Switzerland, on the banks of Lake Geneva where he is believed to have resided ever since.
Despite a worldwide outpouring of grief and support in equal measure following Schumacher's accident, his wife Corinna, whom he married in 1995, has insisted on total secrecy over his condition.
The rule has been faithfully observed by Schumacher's loved ones, friends and wider entourage, who believe the racer and his immediate family deserve privacy to maintain his dignity.
None but a trusted few are granted access to his bedside amid strict security protocols, which have inevitably given rise to a number of rumours over Schumi's condition.
The family has also been subject to extortion and blackmail from opportunists seeking to cash in on the legend's tragedy.
Last month a pair of suspects, Yilmaz T, 53, and his 30-year-old son from Wuppertal in Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia region, were arrested after they allegedly threatened to leak images of Schumacher taken after his near-fatal skiing crash.
They allegedly told the Schumachers they 'would not want (the pictures) published' and 'demanded millions' to stop them from doing so.
The two men, who were arrested on June 19, transferred 'individual files' to the family to show they had access to documents about the F1 star - threats that investigators later deemed credible.
A third man, thought to be the mastermind behind the plot, was also arrested as part of the investigation. The 52-year-old previously worked as a security guard for the family, the public prosecutor's office in Wuppertal said.
A senior prosecutor in Wuppertal confirmed to German media that a preliminary evaluation of data sets obtained in searches of the bouncer's apartment contained 'photos relating to the Schumacher family's private life'.

By almost anyone's standards, Ralf Schumacher enjoyed a highly successful career in racing.
But his accomplishments in the sport were dwarfed by the success of his older brother Michael, who was also a dab hand when it came to building a racing team around him and interacting with the media.
Ralf by contrast often shied away from the press and struggled to integrate as effectively with his team, and as a result never came close to achieving the stardom enjoyed by Michael.
After an impressive junior career which saw him finish as a runner up in several racing championships, Ralf won the Formula Nippon racing series in Japan in 1995 and punched his ticket to the F1 paddock for the 1997 season.
He competed for 11 years at the pinnacle of the sport, racing for three teams and winning six Grands Prix before leaving the F1 grid for the German touring car championship DTM at the end of 2007.
Ralf ultimately retired from motorsport alongside Michael at the end of 2012, and has since gone on to build a successful post-racing career as an entrepreneur and a pundit in Germany.

The brothers shared a good relationship and remained close throughout their careers, but unlike other family members Ralf is said to have lost touch with the immediate family since his brother's fateful accident.
Ralf, now 49, has openly told media that he is no longer in close contact with Michael and his wife Corinna but says he is always there to offer support.
'When I see his children Gina-Maria and Mick, my heart smiles,' Ralf shared with German magazine Bunte in November as he detailed his distant relationship with the family.
'If someone in the family is looking for my advice, I'm there. They go their own way.'
The former F1 driver admitted: 'I miss the Michael of the old days. Life is unfair from time to time. Michael was very lucky throughout his life. But then there was this tragic accident.
'Michael wasn't only my brother. When we were kids, he was also my coach and mentor. He taught me literally everything about kart racing.'
Ralf said: 'There may be an age gap of seven years, but he was always by my side. We raced together, we practised overtaking manoeuvres and everything that matters in motorsports. I had the honour to learn from the best.'
Summing up Michael's dire predicament, Ralf added: 'Fortunately, advanced medical science provides many opportunities. However, nothing is like it used to be.'
Ralf returned to the spotlight this past weekend when he revealed he is in a same sex-relationship with his business manager, a Frenchman from Nice named Etienne.

Ralf's close friend, German actress Carmen Geiss, revealed that the couple had been together for two years and said that they were 'sensationally happy' and 'never had an argument or dispute'.
News of Ralf's same-sex relationship comes almost a decade after he split from ex-wife Cora-Caroline Brinkman in 2015.
The pair were were married for 14 years, having tied the knot back in 2001 before their divorce nine years ago. They had a son, David, who is now aged 22 and is also a racing driver.
Cora, now 47, had a racing career of her own, driving in various classes and championships, and also built a separate career in showbusiness as a Playboy model, television presenter and actress.
She is best known for featuring on German television programmes like Top of the Pops, Mareinhof and Alarm Fuer Cobra 11 - Die Autobahnpolizei, and since the split from Ralf launched a profile on the adult platform OnlyFans.
The pair remained close after their split, with Ralf congratulating his ex-wife on joining the cast of the German version of I'm a celebrity get me out of here in January 2024.
Prior to his relationship with Cora, Ralf allegedly had a fling with Katie Price. She claimed that in 1998, while she was going by her stage name Jordan, her and Ralf shared a bed a few times.
In her autobiography 'Being Jordan', Katie wrote that while they slept next to each other on three occasions, their relationship only went as far as Ralf putting a hand on her breast.
But Ralf denied her claims, telling media at the time that Katie 'had big problems' and was a 'liar'.

The Schumacher brothers Michael and Ralf each had one son of their own.
Mick Schumacher, son of Michael, was just 14 years old at the time of his father's accident, which he witnessed first-hand having accompanied his dad on the ill-fated excursion.
Since then he has become the most public-facing member of the family, carving out his own path in motorsport.
He scooped titles in both Formula 3 and Formula 2 junior categories on his way to F1, where he secured a two-year stint as a driver for American constructor Haas.
He was ultimately let go at the end of the 2022 season as Haas struggled to compete with larger, more successful teams, but was retained as a reserve driver by the Mercedes F1 team, which his father helped to launch in 2010.
He is now competing for constructor Alpine in the 2024 FIA world Endurance Championship, but remains a reserve F1 driver for Mercedes as well as constructor McLaren.
Mick has also paid homage to his father's career multiple times on the track in heartwarming exhibition events.
He drove his father's 1994 Benetton F1 car in show laps at Spa in 2017, piloted the record-breaking Ferrari F2004 at the Mugello racetrack in 2020, and most recently sported his father's original Mercedes overalls and race helmet when driving at Goodwood's Festival of Speed last summer.
A chip off the old block, Mick is an extremely articulate and affable individual, and despite his commitment to maintain his father's privacy he has often offered touching insights into their relationship.
He has also frequently discussed the impact of his father's staggering legacy in motorsport, saying that Schumacher had always told him to 'do what you love', giving him confidence to move from karting up the ranks of motorsport before his F1 debut.

On January 3, this year, he wished his father a happy 55th birthday, Mick wrote on Instagram: 'Happy birthday to the best Dad ever. Love you!'
In 2018, Mick described his dad as 'his idol'.
'It's never easy (to consider my dad's career),' Mick said. 'What my dad did was extraordinary. I appreciate it more every day.
'I always want to compare myself to the best, and my father is the best. He's also my idol. I'm pleased if I can compare myself to him.'
In a heart-rending scene in the Netflix documentary Schumacher, Mick said he wished he could talk to his father about his burgeoning career and, while on the verge of tears, added that he would 'give up everything' for the opportunity to simply discuss F1 together.
'Since the accident, of course, these experiences, these moments that I believe many people have with their parents, are no longer present or to a lesser extent. And in my view, that is a little unfair,' Mick said.
'I think me and dad, we would understand each other in a different way now. Simply because we speak a similar language – the language of motorsport – and that we would have a lot more to talk about.
'And that is where my head is most of the time. Thinking that would be so cool… I would give up everything just for that.'

Mick has been dating Danish model Laila Hasanovic, 23, since August 2023 and a Swedish newspaper reported earlier this year that she joined the inner circle that is allowed to visit Schumacher.
According to the paper, there was a vote of confidence at the end of last year before the tenth anniversary of the accident.
Laila and Mick regularly share loved-up photos to their, combined, over four million followers on social media.
They are often seen soaking up the sun on tropical islands or dressed to the nines at glitzy hotels and restaurants and have even been spotted by eagle-eyed fans walking hand-in-hand at a number of F1 races.
The two have never shied away from declaring their love to the world and have been seen enjoying double dates with Mick's long-time pal, F1 driver Esteban Ocon, and his girlfriend.
In March this year, the model paid touching tribute to her boyfriend's father after posting a series of photos to her Instagram showing her handbag emptied out onto a bed.
In a sweet nod to Schumacher, Laila showed off her AirPod case which was emblazoned with two signs; the first being a 'rock on' hand gesture, and the second a circle with the number 47 in the middle.
Fans were quick to notice the significance of the number which was once Schumacher's racing number.
Laila is also notably a Miss Universe finalist after coming close to winning the globally-recognised beauty pageant in 2019.

Just like his uncle, cousin and father Ralf, David Schumacher perhaps unsurprisingly earns his living as a racing driver.
Born in October 2001 months after Ralf and Cora got married, David grew up go-karting alongside Mick.
But in the same way that Ralf's accomplishments were overshadowed by Michael, David fell short of achieving the same results as his cousin.
While Mick enjoyed championship success in Formula 3 and Formula 2 before entering F1, David competed in Formula 4 and Formula 3 classes but never came close to tasting major success.
He ultimately left open-wheel racing in 2022 for a move into the German touring car championship DTM, where he suffered a horrendous crash at the Hockenheimring - a circuit that years before was the site of his uncle's Formula 1 triumphs.
David collided with fellow racer Thomas Preining and his car smashed into a barrier before careening back onto the track and hitting other cars, resulting in a huge fireball.
He was pulled from the wreckage and was initially cleared by doctors, but was suffering from considerable back pain.
Further examinations later in the week revealed a lumbar vertebra in his back was broken, casting doubts on whether he would ever return to racing.
But Ralf's son healed up and chose to fight on, eventually returning to finish out the season before entering a GT Endurance championship last year.
David, 22, came out in full support of his father's decision to reveal his same sex relationship, writing: 'I'm very happy that you've finally found someone with whom you can really tell that you feel comfortable and safe.
'It doesn't matter whether you're a man or a woman. I'm 100% behind you, Dad, and I wish you all the best! Congratulations!'
But while David maintains a close relationship with father Ralf, who frequently attends his races where they are routinely pictured smiling together, German outlet BILD reported David and Cora have had little to no contact since 2022.

CORINNA SCHUMACHER: The 'guardian angel' wife of 29 years who fell in love with star driver before his wild rise to success and now keeps iron grip on husband's inner circle following his heart-breaking accident
'I miss him everyday, but Michael is here,' Schumacher's wife Corinna said, blinking back tears as she broke her eight-year silence at the end of a 2021 Netflix documentary about the German driver's life.
The emotional show, Schumacher, featured never-before-seen private videos and interviews with Corinna, his two children Gina-Maria and Mick, and his brother Ralf.
Delving into history of the seven-time F1 title winner, the documentary retraces the private life and career of Schumacher and explores the aftermath of a tragic accident that left the motorsport legend with a severe brain injury.
But through the hardship, uncertainty, and life changes, Corinna, Schumacher's wife of 29 years, shouldered much of the responsibility for protecting her husband's privacy and marshalling his inner circle.
Prior to the tragedy, however, she was an inextricable part of his wild success as he rose to superstardom.
Corinna is an accomplished equestrian and sportswoman in her own right, having won a European championship in 2010, and also became a shrewd businesswoman, helping Michael and their advisers to make beneficial business decisions and investments as he racked up incredible sums of money from race wins, lucrative contracts and sponsorships.
Speaking to German outlet Bild, Corinna's friends said: 'She was and still is underestimated by many today,' adding that Michael was one of the few who truly understood just how strong she is.
Corinna was introduced to the racer by a mutual friend in 1991 - and just four years later they tied the knot in a glamorous ceremony that saw Corinna donning an extravagant white gown and wearing flowers in her hair.
Schumacher's wife kept details of her husband's condition private until a bombshell Netflix documentary was dropped in 2021 exploring the life of the racer

She knew a different side to the motor racing icon – a true gentleman and family man who loved nothing more than to party and throw friends into the swimming pool.
'He's simply the most lovable person I've ever met,' Corinna said in the rare Netflix interview.
It was the small moments that attracted Corinna to the then-fledgling star, including when she cooked a meal in celebration of his birthday and he was 'the only one' to help her clean the dishes.
'I thought, 'That's a proper bloke,' she recalled. 'And yes, he was really funny and that's what I saw in him.
'I fell in love with him simply because he was a wonderful person. I just sensed that he was something special to me.
'I never once thought, 'He's a terrific racing driver at the start of a dazzling career.' No one could have guessed that would happen.'
Schumacher spoke very highly of his wife in several interviews over the course of his career, openly declaring they made decisions together and that she was a source of immense strength.
Corinna has given very few interviews since 2013, instead focusing on maintaining her husband's privacy, managing his estate, and building world renowned horse ranches in Switzerland and Texas.
But the 2021 Netflix documentary saw Corinna open up more than ever before.
Sharing her enduring love for her husband, she explained how she misses their old life together, but affirmed that the man she married is still there.
'Everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here. Different, but here. He still shows me how strong he is every day,' she Corinna said.
'I have never blamed God for what happened. It was just really bad luck - all the bad luck anyone can have in life.'
Corinna also discussed how she felt as if 'guardian angels' had been watching over Schumacher's comparatively untroubled racing career.

Corinna said she felt as if 'guardian angels' had been watching over Schumacher's comparatively untroubled racing career
'I don't know if it's just a kind of protective wall that you put up yourself or if it's because you're in a way naive - but it simply never occurred to me that anything could ever happen to Michael,' she said.
Schumacher retired in 2006 but just four years later was back racing for Mercedes GP, where he spent his final years on the track before being replaced by Lewis Hamilton.
But Corinna beamed with pride as she spoke of her fondest memories of her husband - remembering the man who very few got to see.
She said: 'At parties, he was the first to arrive and the last to leave. He loved it… We laughed so much and had so much real fun.
'We all ended up in the pool every time, that was Michael's thing. Even at our wedding people were thrown into the pool!
'He couldn't sing well, it was one of the things he didn't do so well. But he always sang 'My Way' because he knew the lyrics.'
Following her husband's tragic accident, however, the once-party-loving star has lived a private life under the care of doting Corinna.
'I miss Michael every day,' said Corinna, who has enforced a wall of secrecy to protect one of the biggest names in modern sporting times.
'But it is not just me who misses him. It's the children, the family, his father, everyone around him. I mean, everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here.
'Different, but he's here, and that gives us strength. We're together. We live together at home.
'We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he's comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond.
''Private is private', as he always said. It's very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us and now we are protecting Michael.'

GINA-MARIA SCHUMACHER: The daughter who followed in her sport's star mother's footsteps to become a million-dollar equestrian as horses 'gave her strength' to deal with father's tragedy
Rather than going into motorsports, Gina-Maria, 26, followed in her mother's footsteps - Corinna was the European champion in western-style horse riding.
Speaking to She's Magazine in 2019, Gina-Maria and Corinna said that while her son Mick is following in his father's footsteps with a racing career, the mother and daughter were united in their love of riding.
They reportedly said that working with horses gave them both the strength to carry on and to deal with Schumacher's tragedy.
The duo have a ranch in the Swiss town of Givrins - which was gifted to Corinna by Michael in 2005 for their 10th wedding anniversary - with the mother and daughter organising riding events there.
Corinna told the magazine: 'I don't forget who I have to thank for this. That would be my husband Michael.'
Gina-Maria is a highly successful rider, and has won multiple competitions over the years, including the FEI World Reining Championships in Switzerland in 2017.
In February 2018, she won a gold medal at the National Reining Horse Association's novice Cavalli and she topped World Championships for junior riders.
However, her success was something Schumacher had once prophesied would happen.

Speaking to She's Magazine in 2019, Corinna and her daughter (both pictured) said that while her son Mick is following in his father's footsteps with a racing career, mother and daughter were united in their love of Western riding
Corinna said: 'When my husband told me that one day Gina would be much better than me, I was not thrilled.
'I thought "hey, how did he come to that conclusion?" I mean I work with horses from morning to night, trying to learn everything.'
He then told me: 'You are too nice. Gina however gives everything to the horses, but she is also able to say no and to see it through.'
It is also understood that the mother and daughter have also set up a ranch in Gordonville, Texas.
Gina-Maria is now largely based in Switzerland with her fiancé, Iain Bethke, 27.
She will get married later this summer at the family's luxury villa in Majorca to longtime boyfriend Iain, who is also a keen horse rider and former professional show jumper.
Iain, who is from Berwangen in Germany, has often featured in Gina's Instagram posts - a platform where she boasts a huge 303,000 followers.

The couple, who reportedly met at a stable, went public with their relationship in December 2017, after stepping out at an awards ceremony together.
Bunte reported that the couple moved to Switzerland together, before relocating to the Schumacher ranch in Texas in 2022.
However, the pair will be celebrating their nuptials in sunny Majorca, the outlet claimed, saying that a wedding planner from northern Germany has been hired to put the 'finishing touches' on the celebration.
It added the couple will say 'I do' under an arch of flowers at the villa Corinna is understood to have bought in 2017 from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
A country music band will play live music in the evening at the open-air ceremony, according to the report.
Male guests will be asked to attend the wedding ceremony and subsequent party in suits but told they don't have to wear ties because of the high temperatures expected on the day.
The reports about the wedding have not specified whether Schumacher will attend, but German outlet Gala claimed that Mick will be walking his sister to the altar.
