Former Superman actor Dean Cain is predicting that Donald Trump's 'iconic' response immediately after his attempted assassination will secure his reelection.

Trump narrowly escaped death on Saturday after Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, fired multiple shots at the former president from just 130 yards away in a spectacular security failure that is being investigated.

The ex-president luckily turned his head at the vital moment and only ended up with a bloody ear instead of a bullet to his head. He was hustled off stage by his Secret Service detail, but not before giving his supporters a clenched fist salute.

Cain told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention that Trump's fist pump in the air seconds after he was shot was an 'amazing and historical' moment.

As a former police officer himself who has a lot of military friends, he says true character shines through when you survive a shooting.

'The way that President Trump reacted, that shows his character. It's one of the most iconic moments we'll ever find - the photo of him with a flag behind him, even upside down, a nation in distress with blood and saying 'fight, fight fight!''

'I think it's gonna affect their votes. I sure hope it does,' Cain told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview

'I think he displayed the kind of courage and character that he really has, that a lot of people saw for the first time, and I think it's gonna affect their votes. I sure hope it does,' he told DailyMail.com.

The former president addressed the now-iconic moment where he raised his fist and mouthed 'fight' to the stunned audience.

'A lot of people say it's the most iconic photo they've ever seen,' Trump said. 'They're right and I didn't die. Usually you have to die to have an iconic picture.'

Cain said he was at home when his mom called him to frantically spill the breaking news: 'Trump has been shot.'

'It was horrific. You know, the moment was just terrifying [because] I didn't know if he had been killed or anything happened,' he explained.

Cain said he blames the 'rhetoric 'that has been going on - adding that hopefully the shooting will turn down the temperature of the nation.

'You don't call everybody don't like disagree with a Nazi. You don't call them you know, a threat to democracy. They're still doing it, and I wish it would stop because someone's gonna be a little off kilter.'

The movie star said he's looking forward to Trump's Thursday evening speech at the convention which he says will call for unity.

'I think he'll be extremely humble. I think it has changed him probably for the better. It's horrific that it took place but I'm very hopeful for the future as a result.'

Cain, who played Clark Kent from 1993 to 1997, is also working on another film set for release on September 12.

God's Not Dead: In God We Trust is the latest iteration of a series directed by and also starring David White.

The film deals with faith and politics, explained Cain. And it is coming out at the ideal time because 'God already had a hand in this election' by 'turning his head that little tiny bit' and saving his life.

He told DailyMail.com that Trump is expected to attend the premiere showing of the film at the RNC this week.

White told DailyMail.com that the film is designed to get Christians to get out and vote this election.

'It's time to step out,' he went on. 'There is this statistic that 40 million American Christians don't vote in presidential elections.'

'This movie is really a call to say it is an opportunity. It is a responsibility, that if you know so often we sit back and we don't want to get involved. Let somebody else do it. But we've seen what happens to our country as we have not been involved. And more and more we have to get involved.'

White added that it's time to 'put God back at the center of our country that the foundation of our country that it was built upon.'
