This is the heartbreaking moment a mother desperately tries to get her son to safety after shooting broke out in the street - before horrific tragedy struck.

Johana Montoya, 30, and her son Bastian Escalante, 10, were going home from soccer when four suspects on bikes tried to rob an off-duty cop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last Wednesday.

Footage showed them suddenly break out in a sprint as officer Juan García, 30, pulled out his gun.

Two of the suspects fell to the ground after collided with a car. One of the suspects fled on a motorcycle and two took off running. A fourth stayed on the ground.

A second security camera showed Escalante being struck by the gunfire and falling as Montoya desperately cried for help before the police arrived.

Escalante underwent surgery and died Thursday morning. Two boys, 16 and 18, were arrested on the scene.

Each has been arrested for robbery. Their two accomplices remain at large. Garcia was also placed under arrest and is facing a homicide charge with a firearm in the context of excess of self-defense.

Argentine newspaper Clarín reported that investigators recovered 10 bullet casings at the crime scene, but are still investigating if the shots that killed Escalante were fired by García.

Montoya, who is also a mother to 13- and 15-year-old girls, buried Escalante on Friday and told the news outlet that she is seeking justice.

'I only saw when the police officer pulled out his gun and the shooting started, I didn't see the robbers,' she told the outlet. 'We were leaving the club, we were going to my house, they got off the motorcycle to rob the police officer, I saw that the police officer took out his gun and we started to hear the shots.

'I reported the police officer for his actions because I don't understand what kind of professional shoots like that, it couldn't be that he saw the jets and not me,' she added.

'He saw me, he must have seen me, he didn't care that I was with my son. Then he has to rot in jail.'

Friends and neighbors are staging a protest Thursday to pressure authorities investigating her Escalante's murder.

'My strength is my daughters and asking for justice for my son, so that it doesn't end up unsolved,' Montoya said.
