Democratic coup against Biden is BACK: Critics inside party launch bid to delay his nomination as top House member warns of a wipeout if he stays on the ticket

The Democratic coup against President Joe Biden is back on.

Biden got a brief break from the rebellion in the wake of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump

But, a move by the Democratic Party to secure an early formal nomination of Biden as the candidate - to meet an Ohio ballot requirement -  has resparked the plot against the president.

Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, who is the party's Senate candidate in California, warned during a private meeting with donors on Saturday that the party would suffer overwhelming losses if Biden remained the nominee.

'I think if he is our nominee, I think we lose,'  Schiff said, the New York Times reported, citing a recording of his remarks.  'And we may very, very well lose the Senate and lose our chance to take back the House.'

Since May, Biden has been set to be confirmed through a virtual roll call, weeks before the Democratic National Convention in August in order to accommodate an Aug. 7 deadline to place him on the ballot in Ohio.

But that was before his debate performance led to fears Biden's candidacy would result not just in a loss of the White House but of the House and Senate.

Now a group of House Democrats who question Biden's candidacy are trying to rally support for changing the nominating path to allow for potential challenges at the convention, the New York Times reported.

The party's rules committee is holding a virtual meeting on Friday at 11 am ET. Most of its members are long-time Biden loyalists.

Then the more than 4,000 delegates are expected to begin casting their ballots for the party's presidential nominee as soon as Monday. That process is expected to take a week.

The committee will then hold the roll call, which typically occurs on the convention floor but is being held virtually this year.

It is expected to be wrapped up by August 5th. The Democratic National Convention begins on Aug. 19.

Some Democrats, however, continue to have second thoughts about Biden's ability to win in November and are pushing back at the process.

'People are back to being angry at Biden and a push to sign on to this letter is going around ... the 'replace Biden' movement is back,' a House Democrat told Axios

There is a letter circulating arguing there is 'no legal justification' for the early nomination as Ohio has now changed its deadline.

'We respectfully but emphatically request that you cancel any plans for an accelerated 'virtual roll call' and further refrain from any extraordinary procedures that could be perceived as curtailing legitimate debate,' the letter says.

Under the party rules, Biden, who has won enough delegates to be awarded the Democratic nomination, must agree to step down. He cannot be forced out.

He is showing no sign he will exit.

'Look, 14 million people voted for me to be the nominee in the Democratic Party, OK?' the president told NBC News. 'I listen to them.'
