A heroic Siamese cat named Prince made the ultimate sacrifice to save his family when a fire engulfed their Maryland home.
The heart-wrenching incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Montgomery County.
Prince sprang into action around 4am as flames began to consume the three-story townhouse.
The Siamese cat woke up his family by persistently pawing at his sleeping owners.
The family of four, now displaced, survived thanks to their feline guardian angel. But Prince passed away in the fire after running back into burning building.
A heroic Siamese cat named Prince made the ultimate sacrifice to save his family from a devastating blaze that engulfed their Maryland home
The heart-wrenching incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Montgomery County
'The smoke (got) thicker and thicker, and before I knew, my house was on fire,' the cat's owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, told DC News Now.
'If it weren't for Prince waking me up, we would all be dead. He truly saved our lives, and I believe he is our angel.'
As the fire intensified, the three upstairs occupants found themselves trapped by thick smoke.
They were forced to retreat to a second-floor bedroom, where they frantically called for help.
Prince, who had initially made it to safety, suddenly 'jumped from the owner's arms & ran back into the building,' according to Pete Piringer of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).

The family of four, now displaced, survived thanks to their feline guardian angel. But tragically, Prince passed away in the fire after running back into burning building
Tragically, the brave feline was 'likely overcome by smoke and was found by firefighters on the second floor' deceased, Piringer revealed on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Fire officials believe the blaze originated from a faulty freezer motor on the first floor before rapidly spreading through the kitchen.
The quick-thinking cat's intervention most likely saved the lives of the family, as the home's smoke alarms had been removed due to ongoing painting work, according to the fire department.
