A meteorologist who is battling cancer has clapped back at a viewer who sent a 'hateful email' to the entire newsroom about her wig.

Fox 23 weatherwoman Laura Mock, 33, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in May, and she started undergoing chemotherapy soon after.

As a result of the treatment, her hair began to fall out - so she recently decided to shave it off and wear a wig while on the air.

But she was recently left horrified after someone watching her segment decided to send out a negative message regarding her fake locks to her - and to all of her coworkers.

Laura revealed via Facebook last week that a spectator had emailed everyone who worked at the news outlet with a snarky comment about her hair.

She shared a screenshot of the email, which had the subject line: Laura Mock.

'Can she stop playing with her hair and do weather? Looks like she has added fake hair,' it read, in all caps. 

Laura accompanied the post with a powerful message to her hater about body-shaming.

'News flash, it is fake,' she wrote. 'I started losing my hair (thanks chemotherapy!) at the end of June and have been wearing a wig for a little more than a week.

'Think twice before sending hateful emails to your local news talent. This one was to our entire newsroom. 

'Does it bother me? Not really. I have thick skin and have other things to worry about, like the cancer I'm trying to kick out of my body. Doesn't mean I should have to tolerate comments like this.'

The 33-year-old also uploaded a snap that showed her sharing the forecast on air while wearing the wig, and another that featured her holding it up proudly to the camera.

While discussing the incident with the Today show, Laura explained she decided to speak out about it in the hopes of helping others who may be the victim of online bullying.

'There are women that are getting these comments every day that maybe aren't battling cancer, but they're battling other things in their lives, and we don't deserve to have this done,' she said.

Laura has been extremely open about her diagnosis, sharing it on the air soon after she began her treatment.

She described shaving her hair off as 'freeing,' and added that despite the horrific email, she is not ashamed of having to wear a wig.

'It's not perfect - it's obviously a wig - but it just makes me look normal to people,' she explained.

'I have been overwhelmed with positive comments. There have not been many negative ones, but when the negative ones come in, they absolutely stand out.'

She concluded with a statement to anyone who may be thinking of posting a nasty comment or sending a negative message to a public figure or someone they see on TV.

'The people that you see on your local TV are just that: We are people, too. We are going through our own struggles day to day,' she continued. 

'If our makeup and hair isn't perfectly in place, give us grace. You don't know what our morning was like, what our week was like.'

'You are beautiful. With hair. Without hair. With a wig. Without one,' one person wrote.

'Anyone hateful enough to send such an email has something deeper going on within themselves they should be reflecting on first instead of being keyboard warriors. People need to choose kindness.'

'I love your response of posting a picture holding the wig. It made me laugh and I could feel your humor coming through the picture. You've got this,' another added.

'People are absolutely miserable and bored. You're beautiful! Keep on rockin',' gushed someone else.

'You've been rocking that hair girl. Keep on shining,' read a fourth comment.

A fifth said, 'I'm so sorry. Thanks for the reminder that we only need to love and support others, not tear them down.'
