After Trump dodged a bullet Republicans see November as a 'divine election of destiny' and agree to put aside old feuds

After a bullet grazed former President Donald Trump's ear on Saturday, Republicans see the November election as their 'Manifest Destiny.'

'We see this as a divine election, as an election of destiny,' Rep. Nathaniel Moran, R-Texas, told DailyMail.com at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wis.

The belief that God spared Trump so that he could win the election has brought a sense of unity to the party not seen in a long time.

'There's an even greater air of positivity around with my colleagues' after the shooting, Moran said.

'I think everyone has come to the floor with gratitude, and with a renewed sense of purpose. And I thought yesterday was the best day one of a convention I have ever seen,' Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told DailyMail.com.

'The energy level is high. The appreciation for God's sparing President Trump's life is certainly noted. It was awesome to see so much activity on the floor, and really such a sense of unity.'

Trump himself has embraced the prophet-like status Republicans have bestowed on him.

'It was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening,' the former president posted on X.

'The most incredible thing was that I happened to not only turn but to turn at the exact right time and in just the right amount,' Trump said, adding that he'd only turned his head to look at a sign.

'If I only half-turn, it hits the back of the brain. The other way goes right through. And because the sign was high, I'm looking up. The chances of my making a perfect turn are probably one tenth of 1 percent, so I'm not supposed to be here.'

'[Trump] sees the divine hand of providence involved in that and I do, as well all of us do,' Speaker Mike Johnson said in an interview with DailyMail.com. 'God has given him a chance ... to unify the country.'

Even former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley's speech Tuesday night only had a few lone boos. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis got a warm reception from the crowd.

For the first time ever, a Teamsters president addressed the RNC.

'I think that the Democrats are very deflated this week, and the unity you're seeing on the Republican side is going to continue,' said Moran.

It comes as a relief to House Republicans who for the entire Congress have been dealing with chaos - attempts to oust their speaker, near-physical fights, floor paralysis, failed party-line legislation and spending bill crises.

'Finally we're not the ones shooting ourselves in the foot,' one House Republican relished. 'We're going to let the Democrats eat their own.'

The former president has not seen a major bump in polling since the shooting. But Republicans hope it will mobilize supporters to vote like never before.

'I would crawl through broken glass to vote for Trump,' one previously Trump-skeptical Republican aide told DailyMail.com after the shooting.

A new Reuters poll after the shooting showed Trump beating Biden 43 to 41 percent, with a three point margin of error, a similar lead to what he'd had before the shooting.

Corey Lewandowski, political operator and Trump's 2016 campaign manager, said the shooting had convinced Republicans to focus less on 'vitriol' and more on policy.

'I think people are really excited. I think the Saturday tragedy of a man losing his life because he went to a political rally and a president, a former president, his getting shot has really changed the thought process about what's important in life,' he told DailyMail.com.

'I think the shooting has humbled some people to realize the vitriol, the rhetoric — going after the other side is important — but I want to go home and see my family at night too. So let's lay out our vision for America.'
