Walmart's hidden 'clearance aisle' has been a badly kept secret among savvy shoppers for years.

But now one customer believes that the grocery giant is exaggerating the deals on offer there.

One shopper, who goes by the name Tay, posted a viral video on TikTok revealing how some items she found in Walmart's clearance aisle were not heavily discounted.

'Is anybody else noticing that the word clearance is starting to lose its name?' the customer asked in the video, which has been viewed more than 75,000 times.

'Usually clearance is 40 percent minimum off,' she explained, while showing how many clearance tags there were visible in the Walmart aisle.

The influencer then shows the markdowns of several items, showing the reductions are minimal.

One beauty item had been reduced from $9.98 to $8.50, while another was marked down from from $8.97 to $7.50.

'If you're going to lie and say 'clearance' you're diminishing the value of the word 'clearance'' she told her 157,000 followers.

'Then when they do have a good sale, no one is going to come because it is like the boy who cried wolf.'

'If it was advertised as simply 'sale' then you would make more sales, that simple sale psychology.'

'The clearance section [at Walmart] has continued to get bigger and bigger, they've added a big old banner.

'Brands that the thrive prioritize the customer experience.'

TikTok viewers appeared to agree with the complaint.

'Their clearance is just what used to be rollbacks. But they no longer advertise Rollbacks anymore so I guess they're just sticking with a word that many know, clearance' one viewer commented.

'Been budget shopping for almost 10 years now, these prices are not clearance' another agreed.

'I don't consider it clearance unless it starts off at 50%,' a third added.

'Stores are doing it less now bc they lost money on the item if it's sold below what they paid for, but the thing is it wasn't going to sell.'
