Sam Haskell IV, the Hollywood superagent's son accused of killing and dismembering his wife and also murdering her parents, appeared in court Thursday to face the Los Angeles judge who will decide if he will stand trial for the grisly slayings.

Haskell, 36 – who has been on suicide watch at LA's notorious Twin Towers jail since his arrest eight months ago – was led into LA Superior Court shackled and bare-chested, just as he was at previous court appearances.

Sporting a shorter haircut and a heavily-tattooed upper torso, Haskell kept looking around the courtroom during his brief appearance, as if searching for faces he would recognize.

But there were no friends or family present.

At a hearing before a different judge in January, Haskell’s half-naked appearance – caused by old, worn velcro allowing his blue prison suicide watch overalls to slip down to his waist – prompted his lawyer, Weimortz, to object to his client being photographed, saying his bare chest was ‘dehumanizing'.

In response the judge at that hearing ordered photographers to only shoot Haskell from the neck up.

But Thursday Weimortz raised no objection since Judge Lisa Lench allowed no photographs in her court.

A date was supposed to be scheduled for a preliminary hearing where LA's District Attorney will present evidence and testimony and Judge Lench will rule whether the case against Haskell is strong enough for him to be tried by a jury.

But after consulting in chambers with prosecutor Beth Silverman and Haskell's attorney, Joseph Weimortz, Judge Lench delayed the setting of the prelim date by 90 days to a hearing on October 15.

That likely means he won't have a full preliminary hearing till at least another 90 days after that, meaning January 2025.

Haskell, who could face the death penalty if convicted, was arrested after the headless torso of a woman – later identified as his Chinese-born wife Mei, 37 – was found in a dumpster near his office in Encino, northwest of LA, last November.

He was charged with murdering Mei and also killing her parents, mother Yanking Wang, 64 and father, Gaoshan Li, 72, whose bodies have never been found.

He has pleaded not guilty to all three murder counts.

Mei's friends have told DailyMail.com she had wanted to divorce Haskell for at least four years, but feared his powerful agent father would persuade courts to give him custody of their three sons Samuel, 11, James, eight and six year-old William.

Last week, an LA probate judge appointed Britney Spears's ex-conservator Jodi Montgomery as temporary financial guardian of the young Haskell boys who will eventually inherit the $2.5 million Tarzana home where they lived with their parents.

Prosecutors say that on the day following the murders, Haskell hired four day laborers to remove black trash bags from the house.

One worker revealed that he was paid $500 to remove three large trash bags - adding that Haskell claimed they were filled with rocks before later pretending the body parts were 'Halloween props'.

'When we picked up the bags, we could tell they weren't rocks,' he said, noting that the bags were soft and soggy.'

He and his co-workers looked inside the bags and inside they saw 'body parts, a belly button.'

The men then returned the bags and the money to Haskell's home, telling him they did not 'want to be involved', and reported him to police.

Haskell is the son of Samuel Haskell III, a former executive vice-president and worldwide head of television for the talent agency William Morris Endeavor.

His clients included Dolly Parton, George Clooney, Kathie Lee Gifford, Whoopi Goldberg and King Charles's brother, Prince Edward. He quit in 2004, and went on to found Magnolia Hill Productions.

Haskell senior was also CEO of the Miss America organization from 2015-17, but resigned after he was found to have criticized some of the contestants in private emails, ridiculing one for gaining weight and describing another as promiscuous.

Mei's friends have revealed the supposed fear she lived in for years given the family's connections.

Mei's parents had moved into their six-bedroom home in Tarzana about six years ago to help look after the couple's three young boys.

Haskell agreed to the LA Probate Court's appointment of Jodi Montgomery as temporary financial guardian of his young sons - who are currently being looked after by hissister, Mary Lane, 34. A hearing scheduled for August 13 will likely confirm Montgomery as their permanent guardian.

Montgomery is also acting as administrator to Mei's estate which includes the $2.5million house.

According to court papers, the property – vacant since November – has been trashed since the murders and 'has been broken into multiple times, items have been taken, and a small fire was set within the premises.'

Last Friday workers were seen changing the locks at the property and a neighbor confirmed to DailyMail.com that the house had previously been vandalized by thieves making off with some children's toys, among other items.
