New Hampshire's Governor was asked if he is deliberately mispronouncing Kamala Harris' name during an awkward exchange with a reporter.

Chris Sununu was challenged over his pronunciation of the Vice President's first name by Politico journalist Eugene Daniels.

The correct pronunciation of Harris' name has been a high profile discussion ever since she was named Joe Biden's running mate in 2020.

The topic reared its head again on Thursday, when Daniels asked Sununu about the likelihood of Harris stepping in as Democrat nominee in the wake of Joe Biden's disastrous performance of late.

'I hear Republicans often mispronouncing Vice President Kamala Harris' name,' Daniels said in a clip from his show. 'You've done it a few times. Is it a tactic? Or is it just a tough name to pronounce?'

Sununu was seen looking visibly taken aback at the suggestion before asserting it was a mistake.

However, given that Republicans have previously butchered Harris' name both deliberately and unintentionally, Daniels doubled down by inviting Sununu to say it again.

The Governor pronounces her name as 'Kuh-MAL-a' when the correct pronunciation is 'Comma-la', which has been documented extensively during the VP's tenure.

'If I'm pronouncing her name wrong, I apologize, Sununu  said. 'I say Kuh-MAL-a Harris I'm honestly telling you I wouldn't disrespect someone by pronouncing their name wrong.'

Daniels took the opportunity to educate Sununu telling him, 'Comma-la. Comma-la. Comma-la. Don't apologize to me — it's not my name.'

The discourse around Harris' name is well documented, with the Washington Post writing an article on all the people who got it wrong during the RNC last week.

They joined the likes of Tucker Carlson, who lost his temper after being challenged on his pronunciation in 2020.

Donald Trump has also historically fumbled the name or made a show of over pronouncing it in a seemingly mocking way.

Critics believe the mispronunciation is a deliberate tactic to draw attention to Harris' heritage as a black and Indian woman.

Harris has herself addressed the situation, releasing a video in 2016 which used children to help educate people.

'People pronounce my name many different ways. Let #KidsForKamala show you how it’s done,' she said.

And in a 2019 memoir, Harris wrote: '[M]y name is pronounced 'comma-la,' like the punctuation mark. It means 'lotus flower,' which is a symbol of significance in Indian culture.'

However, even Biden has previously struggled, butchering his Vice President's name during a 2019 speech recognizing the Golden State Warriors for the NBA Championship win.
