Late night comedy legend David Letterman is set to headline a fundraiser for beleaguered Joe Biden.
The former host of CBS's 'Late Show' will be headlining the Martha Vineyard-set fundraiser along with Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, at the home of one of the governor's friends.
Letterman, 77, was touted as the evening's 'special guest', in an invite seen by Deadline.com.
He has been seen as a longtime supporter and friend of Biden since his days as vice president, and his being scheduled signals that the president's campaign is forging ahead despite continued calls for him to bow out, even from former supporters.
The fundraiser will be held on July 29, and is one of 10 scheduled over the last 10 days of July.
Late night comedy legend David Letterman is set to headline a fundraiser for beleaguered Joe Biden, officials confirmed over the weekend
The former host of CBS's 'Late Show' will be headlining the fundraiser as Biden and his team continue to insist he is not dropping out of the race, despite losing support from some other big names
'We support the President, the First Lady, the VP and the Democratic Party, in good and tough times because he has been there for us as a family and a state,' Green wrote in a text to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Friday confirming the fundraiser.
He declined to respond to a request for more details, after The Associated Press was first to report news of the upcoming event.
The same day, Biden, who is recovering from COVID-19 at his Rehoboth Beach home in Delaware, called for a united front within his party, while seeking to shift focus back to Donald Trump and his plans for the Oval Office.
He said he was looking forward to getting back on the campaign trail next week to challenge his rival and his claims, 'while making the case for my own record and the vision that I have for America.'
'One where we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms, and create opportunity for everyone,' he said.
'The stakes are high, and the choice is clear,' he continued in a written statement. 'Together, we will win.'
Despite a disastrous debate performance and pronounced exodus of Democratic donors, he has continued to insist he's the best Democrat to beat the GOP frontrunner - and Green told The AP he essentially agrees.
'I think the president stays in this race unless he feels that it is not winnable, or he feels that he has to hear other voices in his inner circle that he shouldn't run,' Green said, not calling attention to potential last-minute replacements like Kamala Harris.
The fundraiser is one of ten scheduled for the president in the waning days of July, and will be held at a home in affluent Martha's Vineyard
Also presiding over the event will be Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, a longtime friend of the Bidens who said the party will be held at the home of one of his friends. Green's wife's uncle was the commander-in-chief's college roommate, and he was elected to his post in 2022
'If the president felt that he wasn't up to it and truly not up to it, he would step down.'
Green, meanwhile, has been linked to the Biden family for years, as his wife's uncle was the commander-in-chief's college roommate
Despite standing by his friend, he still said the decision whether or not to leave the race would ultimately come from Biden himself, as his continues to spiral following last month's disastrous debate.
In the weeks since, Other major Biden supporters in Hollywood have been quick to change their tunes on the prospect of Biden running for a second term, with 'Ocean's Eleven' star George Clooney leading the way.
'It's devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe 'big F-ing deal' Biden of 2010,' Clooney, long a Biden supporter, wrote in a scathing op-ed aired in the New York Times.
'He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020,' he continued. 'He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate
The actor declared at another point in the pleading piece: 'This is about age. Nothing more. But also nothing that can be reversed. We are not going to win in November with this president.'
Figures like Stephen King, Rob Reiner, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, and Star Trek screenwriter Damon Lindelof have all followed suit, despite all being longtime Democrats.
Some celebs, like Letterman, have in contrast stayed loyal, with the recently retired talker being joined by other A-listers like Jack Black - whose Tenacious D bandmate is facing criticism over a jab against Trump after his near-assassination - and Barbra Streisand.
Former president Barack Obama has surfaced as the Biden team's top surrogate, even taking to X to defend Biden against Donald Trump in the wake of his recent debate performance
Letterman, who retired nearly a decade ago after 33 years, has yet to comment on the confirmed appearance, as other A-listers like George Clooney, The Rock, and Cardi B have abandoned Biden completely
Both were present at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles when Biden took the stage on June 16, as were superstars Elton John and Katy Perry a few weeks later in New York City after the debate.
Other stars, like Cardi B, were not so kind following the president's lukewarm performance, with the rapper and others like Duane 'The Rock' Johnson announcing immediately after they were sitting out the upcoming election.
The New York musician in particular said she felt 'betrayed' by the Biden administration.
Meanwhile, the Biden campaign fundraiser June 16 was also attended by former President Barack Obama, in an apparent attempt to help Biden secure a second term.
The former president has since surfaced as the campaign's top surrogate, even taking to X to defend Biden against Trump in the wake of the recent debate.
Videos from the end of the fundraiser, meanwhile, circulated on social media thereafter, scrutinizing Biden's physical and mental abilities.
The president appeared frozen on stage for about seven seconds at a point, and started walking after Obama put his hand on Biden's back.
A White House spokesperson pushed back, calling the viral videos heavily edited, 'cheap fakes' created 'in bad faith' to badmouth the Democrat.
Letterman, who retired in 2015 after 33 years on his program, has yet to comment on the confirmed appearance.
