ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith says it's 'long overdue' that Joe Biden dropped out of Presidential race, believing people should 'get behind Kamala Harris'.
Smith has never been shy about talking about politics and gave his take on Sunday's biggest news of the day at a park in New York City, per Newsday.
'If you bring somebody other than her, than you really upset the applecart, and it’s too much to overcome. But by keeping her, the synergy is there,' Smith said.
'Respectfully, I think he’s done a good job, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with us saying, "You’ve done a good job. Thank you for your years of service, it’s time for somebody else,"' Smith continued.
Biden himself endorsed Vice President Harris for the top of the Democratic ticket for this year's Presidential election.
Biden dropped out of the Presidential race on Sunday, with Stephen A Smith giving his take
Biden, now 81, has been President since defeating Donald Trump in the 2020 election
Biden shocked many by dropping out of the Presidential race on Sunday, with many believing the move would happen, if at all, closer to the Democratic National Convention next month.
Biden's debate performance on June 27 started a deluge of people calling for the 81-year-old to step aside from the White House because of his age.
Now, the Democrats have around a month to formally nominate a new Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate.
Smith previously stated Biden's age 'was not a problem' and that Harris 'does not do much' for Biden's campaign.
Biden had been locked in a rematch with Donald Trump, who he defeated in the 2020 Presidential election to take the White House.
It is not clear how the Democrats will name another nominee, with a pathway being cleared by Biden for Harris to take his role and for the Vice President to nominate someone to take her place.
