Former Trump aide offers theory on what VP Kamala Harris will do if her polls tank

A former Trump adviser has claimed that Kamala Harris will end up a Supreme Court Justice should she fail to hit the ground running against the ex-president.

Richard Grenell, who served as the Director of National Intelligence under Trump, posted on X predicting an 'open convention fight for President'.

The 57-year-old said: 'If [Harris] doesn't cut it then Justice Sotomayor will be forced to resign to make way for Kamala and then an open convention fight for President.'

Justice Sonia Sotomayor has been under pressure to retire amid fears she might enable a Republican president to appoint a conservative successor.

Sotomayor, 70, has been asked to stand down lest she follow in the footsteps of liberal Ruth Bade Ginsburg who died while serving at the age of 87 in 2020.

The death of Ginsburg allowed then-president Trump to cement a six-three conservative majority with the appointment of Amy Coney Barrett

Enabling Harris, the former Attorney General of California, to take up ranks amongst the Supreme Court Justices would stop this from happening.

Grenell told NBC News on Sunday evening after President Biden announced he was backing out of the race that he was 'excited' that the 81-year-old endorsed Harris.

The former ambassador to Germany told the outlet: 'We are pretty excited about the fact that he endorsed Kamala.

'As we know in California, she has never been vetted. Kamala Harris is a product of this whole system. She’s very far left, unvetted and untested.'

While Grenell clearly hopes the Democratic nominee hopeful fails, she has already gained a significant number of prominent Democrat supporters.

His former boss has also already came out and said that he thinks Harris will be an even easier defeat than Biden.

Biden announced on Sunday afternoon that he would not seek reelection and endorsed his Vice President.

National polling averages show Harris trailing Biden 48 to 46 percent, according to the New York Times.

That is an improvement on Biden's scores in the same polls, which showed Trump beating him 47-44.

In swing states and even states that have turned reliably blue in recent elections, Harris out-polls Biden even when losing.

She's within one point - 48-47 - of Trump in Pennsylvania, besting Biden, who was losing 48-45 to Trump.

In Virginia, she leads Trump by five points over Biden, who only leads Trump by four percentage points.

However, those polls were conducted before the assassination attempt on former President Trump and before Biden dropped out.

Biden was last seen on July 17 and is currently receiving treatment for a mild Covid infection, with his team sharing their latest update on Monday

His lack of any public appearances however has caused political figures on the left and right to suggest that he is either gravely ill or even dead.

GOP firebrand Lauren Boebert posted on X calling for him to show 'proof of life' and even issued the president with a deadline.

While anti-Biden left winger journalist Glenn Greenwald deemed it 'strange and wrong' that Biden hadn't addressed the nation about his decision.

There's no suggestion or evidence that Biden is suffering health issues. Any such illness could present a major national security issue and would quickly be made public so a temporary stand-in could be announced.

Worries around his health have been exacerbated after his younger brother said that it had been a factor in him standing down.

Frank Biden told CBS that: 'I'm incredibly proud of my brother. Selfishly, I will have him back to enjoy whatever time we have left.'

That choice of phrase sparked speculation from people that Biden has a secret illness he has not disclosed.

A top Parkinson's disease specialist visited the White House multiple times this year, although officials have insisted Biden is in good health.

In her first public appearance since he exited the race, Harris lavished over Biden with praise after he endorsed her to be the Democratic nominee.

She told those gathered at an event for National Collegiate Athletic Association championship teams at the White House that he was 'recovering well'.

Harris said she first met him through his son Beau, who Harris worked beside will both attorney generals in Delaware and California.

Harris told the crowd: 'We are deeply deeply grateful for his service to our nation.'
