Bride and groom slammed as tacky and cheap by thousands after a starving guest revealed what was on the menu at their very formal wedding

A couple have been left hungry and disappointed after being invited to a formal wedding only to be directed to a DIY ramen bar for dinner.

The couple said they were directed to dress in formal wear for the event and were asked to choose between chicken and fish for dinner in the RSVP.

'We dressed to the gills,' the disappointed couple wrote on a post on Reddit.

So when it came time for the reception, they couldn't believe that instead of their fancy chicken meal there was a self serve instant ramen noodle bar instead.

'Just instant ramen, cubed ham, some little vegetables here and there, and kids sized chip bags. To top it off, it was also BYOB,' the shocked couple said.

The wedding guests had skipped dinner expecting there to be a feast at the reception, but instead they were starving and had to buy their own fast food.

'I've been to a lot of weddings. I'm not a snob by any means. But that wedding is the tackiest one I've ever attended,' the woman said.

People were quick to judge the bride and groom, with many slamming them for being so cheap.

'Sounds like the kind of wedding where you pick your gift up on the way out,' one person said.

People said that while a casual ramen bar might work at a low-key wedding, when you have a formal celebration the meal needs to fit the occasion.

'This whole thing makes me so sad and disappointed. There's no excuse to have your guests leave hungry! It doesn't have to be five star cuisine, but you are setting up expectations when you ask for formal attire,' one woman said.

Others thought the bride and groom were just out to score expensive presents by inviting people to what they described as a very formal wedding and not feeding them properly.

'This sounds a lot like a cash grab. I've unfortunately been to a wedding like this,' one woman said.

Some people thought the only explanation for the behaviour was that something had gone wrong with the catering.

'I need to believe the caterer had a catastrophic event hours before the reception or I absolutely can't with the bride and groom,' one woman said.

But the couple insisted that serving the ramen to some guests was no mistake.

It turned out that another set of inner-circle guests were treated to a proper wedding meal - while the rest just had to make do with noodles.

People were outraged that there was a different tier of guests being served better food than others.

'They had a class system at their wedding,' one woman said.

'Yikes...such a bad look, how rude,' one man said.

Some people were taking a more light hearted view about the wedding invitation asking for a preference between chicken and fish, and then offering ramen.

'Chicken and fish are legitimate ramen flavors,' one man said.

'They were just curious about what you liked, not actually offering those as options,' another man joked.

Others had some sage advice that they swear by whenever attending weddings.

'I always stop and get fast food before a wedding. You never know how long it's going to be until you eat, or what they're going to serve,' one woman said.

The thread was reposted on wedding shaming pages on Facebook where people were equally horrified.
