Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy was considered a style icon before her untimely demise at only 33-years-old in 1999, when she and husband John F. Kennedy Jr. died in a plane crash - and now, her legacy lives on.

When Carolyn and JFK Jr., who was the second child of late President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, started dating in the early '90s, they quickly became one of the most envied A-list couples.

The effortlessly chic Boston University graduate was the director of publicity for Calvin Klein's flagship store in Manhattan and a red carpet fixture.

And now, Gen Z has become obsessed with emulating her style on TikTok, as stylists explain exactly how to recreate her sartorial choices - and who's following in her fashionable footsteps today.

Gen Z is constantly posting about emulating the '90s style muse, whether it's her narrow sunglasses, slinky slip dresses, lack of jewelry, or sleek headbands, which she bought at the New York City pharmacy C.O. Bigelow Chemists

Influencers have even created 'cool girl style guides' that call Carolyn 'the epitome of timeless, classic style,' with one creator saying, 'I'd like to thank my mama for introducing me to my new fashion roman empire.'

That's not the only minimalist, old money look that Gen Z is obsessed with - whether it's Saltburn or Sofia Richie's wedding, there's a a real thirst for classic elegance with a designer flare as their generation moves away from flashy logos and ostentatious shows of wealth.

There are active Instagram accounts devoted to posting Carolyn's outfits and praising her style - while on TikTok, people share their own recipes to recreate her looks, with more than 200,000 posts dedicated to the late muse.

Stylist Liz Teich calls Carolyn her 'forever muse' and shared a TikTok recreating one of her classic looks.

'To achieve her '90s minimalism, start with some bootcut or flare jeans, tuck in a white tank or tee. Minimalist sandals are essential. Top with a boxy but not oversized black blazer,' the stylist advised on social media.

She recommended keeping the accessories minimal, but getting creative with a headscarf, oval sunglasses, her signature pop of lip color, and a classic handbag.

Liz told DailyMail.com that CBK 'has been such an influence on my personal style for as long as I can remember.'

Fittingly, the stylist's first job in fashion was working at the minimalist brand Chaiken, which just so happened to be one of Carolyn's staples.

While the San Francisco-based clothing line no longer exists, it's still available on resale websites like Vestiare

'I think Carolyn's style still resonates with women because it's ubiquitous with 90's fashion and also timeless, unfussy style that never fails,' Liz mused.

Liz agrees that it's the perfect storm for her classic style to make a comeback, as Gen Z is completely obsessed with the clean girl aesthetic and quiet luxury, and they love thrifting, 'so it's no wonder they rediscovered Carolyn's aesthetic of clean lines and elegant minimalist style.'

For those who want to channel their inner Carolyn, Liz explains she 'was notorious for wearing a mostly neutral color palette' with 'simple lines.'

The fashion guru eschewed bold patterns, and if she did, it was just one hero piece, like the famous leopard-print coat she thrifted.

Liz added that Carolyn never wore any visible logos and she rarely blew her hair dry or wore makeup, although she did opt for a bold red lip occasionally.

Liz emulates her style, but likes to add modern accessories - unlike Carolyn, who famously never wore jewelry.

She also plays with silhouettes to modernize Carolyn's look.

While Carolyn always wore an extremely '90s straight leg, flared or bootcut pant, Liz will pair a Carolyn-inspired ensemble with a wide leg pant to make it feel fresh and youthful.

It might be tempting to head to Calvin Klein to get the Carolyn look, but Liz explained she was never seen in head-to-toe outfits from the brand.

Instead, mix it up by experimenting with current minimalist brands, which are all the rage in the quest for quiet luxury.

Examples include Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's buzzy brand The Row, celebrity-beloved Swedish fashion house Toteme, and trendy Khaite, famous for its mesh ballet flat.

Liz thinks modern Carolyn's style-wise would be socialite and co-founder of online fashion retailer Moda Operandi Lauren Santo Domingo, as well as fashion influencer Anouk Yve, who's based in the Netherlands.

Gwyneth Paltrow is another sartorial superstar following in Carolyn's footsteps.

Liz says the Goop founder 'has mastered the same understated elegance that Carolyn encapsulated in her style.'
